Traveling Companions,
This review is from: Daily Devotions for Writers (Paperback)
In these daily readings, I find other writers who have stared at blank pages, wrestled demons of self doubt, dealt with rejection and disappointment. No preaching or pious platitudes here. Just honesty, good humor, and stories shared.
Suddenly I am not alone. I am surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, co-laborers in the craft of writing.

This book speaks to all writers. Whether you are just beginning to write, hoping to write, thinking you should write or continuing to write, this Daily guide will give you a boost.
Although the writers wrote from a Christian perspective, any writer could be encouraged by the stories in this book. All of the stories are true. They are not "preachy" and have great thoughts and take-a-ways.

Attention Evangelicals,
By Staying Healthy (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Daily Devotions for Writers (Paperback)
If you are an Evangelical Christian, you may want to take a look at the list of contributors before you purchase this book. The back of this book states that the contributors are "a group of Christian writers from all over the country." Along with some Evangelicals, this group of contributors include Catholic priests, nuns and Catholic laypeople; Episcopalian and others. A variety of people, of different faiths, make this book to be, almost, ecumenical. If this book was just a book on tips for writing--that would be great. Yet, it's not. While most of the contributors don't mention their faith, some do, such as the woman who said, "being around the man who had absolved me of sin after thirty-five years away from Catholicism...." (p. 71). As you can see, the woman is talking about going to a priest for the forgiveness of her sins. As Evangelicals, we know that we can go directly to Jesus for forgiveness of sins. Therefore, the point to be made is that, even if the contributors don't express their belief, they DO HAVE different beliefs from your own. This could matter to some of you, since this is a "devotional" where it's the contributor's job to lift up the reader towards the things of God, as the reader attempts to daily write. Lastly, each contributor again, with their own beliefs, leads the reader into prayer. Not every evangelical would be comfortable with that. So...just thought I'd let you know.
