I got this book and was really looking forward to it. It was sorely disappointed. Each day includes a Biblical quote and a story. The story may or may not have anything to do with the Bible quote. Even if they did hold similar themes, there was no written explanation of how or why the story was relevant to the Biblical verse. I also found that most of the stories were not at all relevant or helpful for me as a new mom. I was hoping that is would be more spiritually focused rather than just stories of things that happened in other women's lives. I definitely don't think that each day was a "nugget of practical faith" like the description claims.

All that being said, I could see that some women would love this book and find it helpful, but others might not. If you're looking for a spiritual daily guide, I don't suggest this. However, if you are looking to be able to spend a little bit each day reading about the struggles of other mothers in order to feel that you are not alone, then this may be a good book for you.

I think that this is a well put together book that has a lot to offer. However, I think the description makes you think that it will be a different type of book than you are actually receiving.

Hope someone finds that helpful to know,

I ordered this book for a friend who is having her first baby. When it arrived I couldn't help but browse through it. Wow! It's lovely. There is so much wisdom and encouragement in each devotion. It brought me right back to when I had my first child--the sleeplessness, the adjustment to a new identity of "mother", being needed non-stop.

This book can gently guide a new mom (or experienced mom!) through the rough early stages of motherhood. The contributors are diverse--a mother of multiples, a mother of a child born with an unexpected diagnosis, a single mom, and many more--but their insights and connections with God provide spiritual support to nurture a new mom.

The devotions follow the same pattern as the Daily Guideposts, with a scripture verse, a passage by the contributor, followed by a short prayer. Just short enough for a busy mom to read, and just long enough for it to be meaningful. A beautiful book.

An absolutely beautifully crafted book that while targeted to new mothers also appealed to me - mother of a ten- and seven-year-old. The raw, sometime conflicted and overwhelming emotions of new motherhood are movingly related. I can't imagine reading only one a day! I found myself zooming through to follow one author and then another. As editor Julia Attaway so poignantly writes in her opening letter, "Motherhood changes every dimension of our lives." What a great book - even for those of us who are starting into middle-motherhood!

I have 4 children now, but this book brought back memories of what I felt 15 years ago with the birth of my first son. The contents are set up by 1st month through 12th month of your new baby's life, with a page to read each day of the year. They begin with stories of fascination (and exhaustion) with your new born and go through various milestones of your baby's first year, ending with the bitter sweet time of those tentative toddling steps and first birthday celebrations.
Twenty one authors (including one Dad) share their joys, insecurities, frustrations, and thrills of parenting their first child, and new moms will be able to identify with so many of their emotions and thoughts. Each page begins with a Bible verse and ends with a short prayer. I thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing and reliving those moments. I'm keeping a copy of the book for myself, and ordering several to give as gifts.

This devotional is awesome. It's interesting because I thought that since I am not a mother, I wouldn't be able to relate, but it touched me because I was so able to relate to the messages and themes that covered all spectrums of life.
I think if you are a mother, that there will not only be practical words of wisdom to apply to your parenting, but I believe that God will meet you where you are, and as a parent you will get to take delight in sharing His attributes, considering He's the ultimate parent.
I definitely recommend this book.

I received this from my mothe-in-law after I had my baby. I enjoy reading it each day and was amazed how many times something I was going through ended up being the reading for that day. I liked it so much I got it for a friend who is expecting.

This book is a nice mix of new mothers' thoughts and helpful information. I especially liked that the new mom could start with the birth of her child any time in the course of a year. There are special entries for holidays.

I've given it to 3 new mothers-to-be and they report back to me that it is very good. One new mother said it brought her to tears to know that what she was experiencing was normal. Great gift for a baby shower.
