A coworker of mine recently let me borrow this book and I immediately bought my own copy! In an educational world filled with state and national testing, it feels good to spend some time 'getting back to the basics' of spelling and grammar. These simple exercises make it possible without taking too much time away from your original lesson plans. I give the exercises as a daily warm up activity for my 7th graders (with a 5-10 minute limit). I highly recommend this item for middle school English/Language Arts teachers.

If you are looking for a good way to tackle the "oh-so-fun" grammar aspect of your standards, this is it. I took 10min in the begining of each class to go over each day as bellwork. It is digestible for kids and very relevant to the skills they are suppposed to be learning. It includes, idioms and metaphors ect. My only problem is that, at least at my school, the material is a little advanced, so i used the 5th grade for 6th grade and so on.

This is a great way to reinforce, reteach, review essential skills on a daily routine.

I am a school-based speech pathologist, so I use the "Oral Language For Daily Use, Grade 6" (OLDU) to supplement work classroom teachers assign during their Language Arts instruction. The lessons are quick and can easily be modified to meet my needs during individualized therapy. This resource is an excellent resource for quick review of language skills!

This book is one of the greatest ten minute grammar lesson-a-day style workbooks I could find. The text combines several different grammatical lessons in a week and then repeats these lessons for students to build on and continue to review. What a great way to get grammar in, in only ten minutes of class a day!

This is a great warm-up and review for grammar. Grammar isn't my daughter's best subject, and this has helped a lot. Each day's work is half a page.

Joey's Adventures book review
I received a complimentary copy of Joey's Adventures by Christopher J King as a member of the Dorrance Publishing Book Review Team.
I chose this book to review because the cover was appealing to me with the kangaroo picture and I thought my kids would like it. It was the most inviting graphics of the books I had a choice of. When I first received it I was cautionary about reading it to my children because of the subject matter although it was listed as age appropriate. After a month on the shelf I got a reminder from the Dorrance people as well as my daughter that I was overdo for my review so I put my reservations aside and read it to my eight year old daughter. I also acknowledged that my five year old was already being fortified against many of the vices mentioned in the book at his school on a regular basis so that worked to soften me up some as well.

Lily liked the book because it taught lessons about bad things like drugs and alcohol and how to help people that get hurt. By the third chapter she already had the ending down and was quoting it with me as we went. She Guessed that the EMK was the Emergency Medical Kangaroo before I did. So I gave her a big hug and told her I was proud of her and that I loved her. We both laughed for a while after that. She was a bit disappointed that the book left out cheating and lying because those are also very important things.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised about how the author dealt with these subjects and how comfortable I was with reading it to my daughter and will soon share it with my five year old. I readily recommend this book for all parents looking to strengthen their children against the vices that currently plague our society on an ever increasingly younger level.
