Aldrete (Professor of History and Humanistic Studies, University of Wisconsin at Green Bay) presents Daily Life in the Roman City: Rome Pompeii, and Ostia, a scholarly examination of the similarities and differences of ancient Rome's cities - their infrastructure, government, economy, dangers, highlights, entertainment, religion, and more. The final two chapters invoke particular focus upon Ostia, an industrial port city, and Pompeii, the city that would become a virtual time capsule preserving a snapshot of Roman daily life. Black-and-white photographs, a wealth of appendices, and an index round out this absorbing, informative and extraordinary study, highly recommended especially for public and college library world history shelves.
