Your grade 6 and higher students will build mastery and retention by applying these lessons for as little as 15 minutes a day. Practice computation, word problems, and dozens of other important math skills are covered, all in a range of difficulty appropriate for grade 6. There are 36 weeks worth of lessons, each divided as follows. Practice five items a day Monday through Thursday:

two computation problems

two items that practice a variety of math skills

one word problem

Friday's lesson contains a single problem that is more extensive and may require multiple steps. These problems emphasize reasoning and communication in mathematics.

The page for each day features a place for the student to enter his or her name. All pages are reproducible. Just one example of an exercise found in this book is: "If two angles of a triangle measure 50 degrees and 85 degrees, what is the measure of the third angle?"

There is an answer key for each week and a scope and sequence chart. The scope and sequence charts detail the specific skills to be practiced and show when they will be presented. The skills included are those found in math texts at each level. Lessons are illustrated with basic line art of things familiar to any sixth grade student. All 112 reproducible pages perforated for easy removal. $14.95 each.

Worksheets are brief and easy to understand, but most are at a 4-5 grade level. Definitely not 6+. Most are completed within 2 or 3 minutes by 6th grader.

This is a great series. As noted by another reviewer, they're great warmups. I have my students do a day's problems at the start of class. It's a great way of getting the kids settled in and of maintaining skills. The book would also be an excellent extra homework assignment, one in addition to the sheet on whatever skills we're currently using. I have sent the book home for the kids to work on over the summer as a way to keep their skills sharp. I've been pleased with how much of Virginia SOL grade-level skills are covered in the book.

The only downside to this book is that the digits are sometimes a bit small, and the work area is limited. There's not a lot of white space around the problems. If your students have visual tracking problems or visual motor integration problems, this can be problematic. I've worked around it by blowing up each day so it's a page on its own.

I'm the kind of person that likes to refresh my memory with childhood workbooks. It's amazing what you can forget from grade school. It's a good review for me and will benefit when the kids come home with their own homework. It's packed with daily exercises so there's a little to do each day.
