This book teaches and reteaches the 4th grade math concepts -- and students who used it passed their state assessments. Although based on teh Virginia Standards of Learning in an upward spiraling level of difficulty through its chapters, it is useful for other states as well. Particularly helpful for students who need help remembering what they've learned over a longer period of time.

About the Author
Judy Sain has been a professional educator since 1988. She has taught math in kindergarter through seventh grade. Sain has developed and implemented a series of parent/child math workshops which were successful in refreshing parents' basic math skills, thereby enabling them to help their children more with homework. Sain also has created a strategic probem-solving process that has helped many students improve their scores in state math testing.
Sain's students have consistenly experienced success on the Texas state math test. She is a math consultant for aha! Process, Inc.

practice is the key,

This is a sound SOL book for 4th graders. It provides concise review of SOL objectives with examples. The practice items are very similar to the real ones. Test-taking tips are fairly practical and easy to grasp. A nice SOL prep book.
Although it does a fine job of preparing for the SOL, you should not expect such a thin book improve your child's overall study magically. In addition, my daughter uses Beestar (a nice web site at http://www.beestar.org) to practice math and reading every week. Her friends use it, too. With solid skills ready, this book enhances SOL scores effectively.
