I have very much enjoyed this book. I had never heard of the Desert Fathers before reading it, but now, I want to learn more about them, as they seem to have been very wise people, almost Zen-like in their wisdom and in the beauty of their writings. This book is arranged so that you have writing about a subject on one page, and then a brief story that illustrates that point on the facing page. Its tone reminds me a lot of some stories I have read about Buddhist monks; the Desert Fathers cultivated a similar way of thinking.

I have taken to reading the prayer that follows the introduction every morning because I find it so beautiful. This book is well worth reading, and I want a copy of it for my Kindle Fire, once that arrives.
