An excellent way to understand the Old Testament, August 3, 2009
This review is from: Daily Study Bible: Old Testament Set (24 Volumes) (Paperback)
The Old Testament Daily Study Bible Series is a 24 volume commentary of the Old Testament written from 1981-1986 by 12 Old Testament scholars. It includes the Revised Standard Version (RSV) text of the Old Testament followed by commentary on that text, providing background and historical information, and also discussing the relevance of the text to our lives today. By breaking the Old Testament into manageable sections, with excellent commentary, it makes it possible to read the Old Testament on a daily basis in a reasonable amount of time while gaining a greater understanding of the context in which the texts were written and their application to our lives today. Overall, the Series provides an excellent and detailed overview of the Old Testament for lay people and clergy. Some of the better volumes in the series includes Peter Craigie's volumes on Ezekiel and the Twelve (minor) Prophets, George Knight's volumes on Leviticus and the Psalms, Robert Davidson's volumes on Jeremiah and Lamentations, and J.G. McConville's volume on I and II Chronicles.
