After classroom teaching, she worked as researcher and then Unit Manager for the Assessment Program at Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory. She finished her doctorate. She wrote her first book: 6+1 Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide for Grades 3 and Up. And the rest, they say, is history.

Teachers have been teaching reading, writing, and 'rithmetic forever. As a seasoned teacher of more than 40 years, I am always looking for a better way to teach any core subject, in this case writing. Ruth Culham is a respected expert in teaching young people to write. I have seen her and read several of her books. This format allows the teacher to present materials for instruction on the interactive white board. Our school has just placed one of these in each classroom. Daily Trait Warm-Ups: 180 Revision and Editing Activities to Kick Off Writing Time seems to have academically acurate information that can be presented in a modern manner without creating materials from scratch. The time saved in planning can be used to customize materials and provide more instructional support for individual student needs. There are 180 mini lessons to choose, so this can really be a daily routine that could be done by a sub or a student teacher even in the absence of the teacher.I've tried the CD and looked over the material, which seem to be excellent and user friendly. The real test will come in the fall when I learn how the students react to this type of presentation. I think the results will be amazing!
