About the Author
Born December 30th, 1965, Scott Ennis has written more sonnets than William Shakespeare. Scott's sonnets have appeared in numerous journals and books. He currently resides in Reston, VA near Washington, D.C.. Scott is a sub 3 hour marathon runner and an Ironman triathlete. Scott completed the Philadelphia Marathon in 2009 for a PR of (2:51:55) and the Ironman Triathlon in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for a PR of (10:51:58) Bio: Scott was born near Seattle and was raised all over the country due to his father's career in the Navy. Residences growing up include: Hawaii, Connecticut, Virginia, California, Idaho, Utah, and Connecticut again, where he graduated high school. After graduation Scott enlisted in the Army National Guard as a Combat Engineer. After Basic Training he attended college at BYU-Idaho for a year, the following summer he returned to Fort Leonard-Wood, Missouri for Combat Engineer training. Upon completion of CE training Scott attended Airborne (parachuting) School at Fort Benning, Georgia. After Airborne school Scott attended Special Forces (Green Beret) school at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Upon leaving Fort Bragg, Scott completed a 2 year missionary assignment for his church in South Africa, where he became fluent in the Afrikaans language. Upon returning to the USA Scott completed a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. While studying at WSU Scott began seriously writing poetry and was invited to read his original poetry in 1991, 1992, and 1993 at the National Undergraduate Literature Conference. While at WSU Scott met Rachelle Peck, a ballet dancer at the University of Utah. In 1992 Scott and Rachelle were married. They moved to Michigan for work and school and their son, Daniel was born there in 1999. From there they moved to Minneapolis and then to Central New York. While in Central New York, Scott became involved in athletic competition in running and triathlon. Next, they moved to Virginia, near Washington D.C. While there Scott and Rachelle decided to separate. In 2010 Scott was in a near-fatal bicycle accident. After 6 months in the hospital, Scott's parents took him to live with them, near Seattle, Washington, where Scott completed rehabilitation therapy for injuries sustained in the bike accident. He has now returned to competitive running and triathlon. Scott is returning to university to obtain his MFA in Creative Writing and planss to become a college professor in English Literature and/or Writing. "The traditional sonnet form does not limit me. I find that writing the sonnet helps me to focus my ideas more than free verse. I also enjoy the sound of spoken poetry and believe the sonnet to be unsurpassed in this medium."
