5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for more Daisy Dawson, March 4, 2010
I bought this book for my 6 year old daughter who loves animals and just a little bit of "trouble." My daughter reads above her grade level but we like to read together, so I read a page and then she reads a page. From the first couple of pages when she realized Daisy could understand AND talk to the animals she was in love with this book and this character. We read it over the course of three days, a couple of chapters each evening before bed and I can tell you the "adventures" in the book had my daughter giggling out loud and gasping with excitement. She absolutely adored this book and we have already ordered another DD book. I believe there is a 3rd in the series right now and we hope there are many more. Daisy is a fun, lovable little girl who will definitely delight your little girl with her antics with animals.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great buy, August 8, 2009

This book, and the others in its series, is a delightful read. Not only is the story great and will get the attention of young readers, but the book also comes with lovely black and white illustrations which will really encourage young readers to stick with the book. Now, the actual book, I would say, is for a more independent reader (way above my six year old), still, if you are willing to read it to your young child they will, I guarantee love the story. Another great feature of this book is the quality of the writing: In other words, very well written thus introducing the reader towards suing a little more of a sophisticated lexicon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't get enough!, February 14, 2012

My daughter (3 1/2) has just started listening to chapter books. We've had a terrible time finding books that were interesting, without having more mature content, themes, or language. Daisy Dawson is on Her Way is well written, with an interesting premise and a creative plot. Our whole family enjoyed it, and we're anxious to get the rest of the Daisy stories. I would highly recommend this to children ready to hear chapter books, as well as young readers. Wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING! Don't Pass Up This Review, You will Regret It!!!, January 5, 2012
When I was in high school I picked up this book on a whim and started reading it. I also read some of it out loud to my younger siblings who were at the time from pre school to early middle school age...we all enjoyed it! In fact When I was reading it to my little sisters my brother joined in and they wouldn't let me stop until it was finished...nor did I want to.

As far as why it is OUTSTANDING, well, the cover is totally decieving and for once that's a great thing. The story was written by a man in England who teaches school and it is about a girl with a newfound gift that makes her responsible for helping a lot more animals than the doggy on the cover.

I don't want to be story spoiler, but I will say this book is funny, Daisy learns how to deal with her bad case of dawdling and she learns some stuff in her dawdling to school that you wouldn't expect.

In fact, although I haven't read this book in some time...I think that the experiences Daisy has throughout the story are not only funny and exciting...they grow her as a person. This book is warm and full of clever surprises...one of which is that it's not just a book that girls whould want to read. I reccomend it for boys, girls, and older folk who want a childish spin on life and on adventure to brighten their day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute book!, August 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book for my 6 year old daughter and we had so much fun reading it! It is cute and simple, very fun to read and we are enjoying the sequel also. I love the different characters, (gerbils, dog, horse, cat, squirrel) it is fun to do the voices. Daisy can talk to animals and with a few animal friends helps another animal in need. We had a good time laughing and found the story entertaining. I do wish the chapters were shorter, but I would recommend this book anyway! It is a great length for a beginning first grader! Longer than a picture book, but not quite as long as Magic Tree House.

I was attracted to this book by the front cover and I'm glad. Both my 8 year old and my 5 year old have really enjoyed it. The characters and their adventures are interesting and fun. We'll be looking for other Daisy Dawson adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pick This Daisy for Young Readers, March 13, 2010
Meet Daisy Dawson, a carefree little girl who just realized that she can talk to animals. She's always loved exploring the outdoors, and she likes to greet the various creatures she sees on her walks to and from home and school, but after a recent encounter with a butterfly, Daisy's suddenly able to understand everything that her furry, fuzzy, and flying friends are saying!

Naturally curious and habitually late to school, Daisy Dawson is full of life. You'll love every moment of her adventures with her new friends! The adorable menagerie is populated by all kinds of animals, with each character having a different personality. A bloodhound who informs Daisy that his name is Boom - not Rover as she's been calling him - quickly becomes her closest confidante. Meadowsweet, a gentle horse, has a very maternal, wise presence. Cyril, a silly gray squirrel, fancies himself a bit of a hero. His shy niece, Hazel, and daredevil nephew, Conker, are introduced in the second volume, along with two sleek river otters named Spray and Dampsy. Let's not forget the classroom gerbils, Furball and Burble, who chatter, argue, and even sing a little.

Written by Steve Voake and illustrated by Jessica Meserve, these simple chapter books are perfect for young readers who are just starting to dip their toes into the waters of independent reading. The black-and-white illustrations by Meserve have an old-fashioned touch, happily reminiscent of those by Jane Miller in the Susie books by Lee Wyndham. The stories are engaging and progress at a steady pace. Daisy Dawson is On Her Way! introduces Daisy to her newfound Doctor Dolittle-like ability. In the second book, Daisy Dawson and the Secret Pond, Daisy takes a ton of pictures with her new digital camera and meets a pair of otters down at the local pond, Darkwater Sump. I'll definitely be checking out the third book, Daisy Dawn and the Big Freeze, when it comes out in November 2010.
