3.0 out of 5 stars Daisy Pump BB Gun
I bought this gun because it had an adjustable rear sight. Even with the rear sight as high as it would go it still shot low. It works well but it doesn't group as good as I thought it should. It is o.k. for shooting tin cans or targets. Unlike the Red Rider it does shoot every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST AIR RIFLE EVER BUILT, April 15, 2010
This review is from: Daisy Outdoor Products 25 Pump Gun (Brown/Black, 36.5 Inch) (Sports)
This particular BB gun changed my life. I was a troubled kid and often visited relatives in the country. Well my buddy had one of these and loved it. I saved up the 7 dollars and 50 cents to buy the one at Western Auto. My and Johnnie stayed in the woods, putting these guns through every sort of conditions possible. Never had a problem. That gun never left my side. After the age of 16 where girls and cars became my passion, I lost track of my old gun. Now in my 50's and with two sons, they had heard me talk about this magic BB gun since they were walking. I looked forever but could never find another one for them....or me. Well no more! I bought this model, took it home, adjusted the sights out of memory and started shooting. It is EXACTLY the same weight, balance and size as it was 40 years ago. A few minutes later I was shooting it from the hip and hitting every time. That muscle memory I developed all those years ago, kicked right in due to it's exact weight as the original USA made fun over 40 years ago. It has a 50 round magazine that unscrews from the barrel. Kind of tricky to load but you figure it out soon enough. No BBs rattling around to scare off that garden pest before you can put a stinging round in it's butt. NEVER a misfire. The internal magazine ensures that. I think the magazine increases it's amazing accuracy. It cocks unlike any other. You can stay on target and chamber another round, unlike lever and other pumps. Well of course the CO2 is good for that but you won't get the same power as the CO2 diminishes. They rate at 350psf but can be anywhere up to 450psf out of the box. Want to make it a 1000fps or more shooter? Guess what. You can. Me and Johnnie needed more power to kill rabbits, squirrels, mean roosters we couldn't catch and crows, so we took them apart, took off the plunger spring and stretched the devil out of it. It was a 2 man job cause that spring wanted to get sprung. Now days I would go to the hardware store, find a heavier and longer spring that will give it the fps well exceeding a .45 cal. Handgun. We actually used these guns to teach a bull to stop running after people to get them. One of us played bait while the other stood back juiced up Model 25 in hand. When the bull started chasing the shooter would yell "QUIT" just as we shot him in the nose. It stopped the bull square in his tracks. It only took a few times and that bull stopped his bad behavior and Johnnies little sisters never got ran down by him again. They'd holler "QUIT!" as soon as he'd start and he'd freeze up waiting and fearing some searing nose pain. The stock length is the standard length for hunting rifles. It is taller than my Winchester lever action 30/30. Although my eyes aren't as good now, I plan on going out tomorrow and see if I can still pick flies off the wall. Shooting a running bull in the nose is nothing with this rifle. The flies are a bit more challenging. We must have missed about 10 percent of the time. Don't bother comparing this one with that one. This is the answer and you can make it as powerful as you want. You can buy breakdown manuals on EBAY but it`s simple enough that two young country boys figured it out.. So if your sons are now 23 and 18 and more interested in girls and cars than BB guns....Buy one for yourself. You deserve the very best and this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daisy #25 pump-action is as I remembered it from a kid., November 26, 2010

Being an old time BB gun fan since not "shooting my eye out" as a kid, I had a ball teaching my grandson and grand daughter too how to use gun safety and some shooting skills in the back yard much to the dismay of their Canadian mother which hates guns. I remember this baby was a bear to cock where I had to use my full weight to pull down the cocking lever but now it was easy. The kids have to use their full weight again. My older eyes needed the addition of a fiber optic sight glued on the front sight post to make it easy to see for aligning the sights together. Shoots straight and is lots of fun. A parent could go farther wrong with a video game.

I never knew this model was still avalible. I had one at nine back in 1962. I absolutely loved that gun just as I do this one I ordered. High quality mechchanisms and wood grain stock and grip. When I loaded and shot this BB gun, I felt nine all over again!!

Bought for my son age 11. Works very well it is right on site wise. Takes skill to fire. Did not like the fact Daisy has these units made in China, But its well made. I would have been willing to pay more for it though if it were still and American made product.

5.0 out of 5 stars fun old bb gun, October 14, 2010
This review is from: Daisy Outdoor Products 25 Pump Gun (Brown/Black, 36.5 Inch) (Sports)
this gun was great back in the early 1960,s...looked more like a real gun,,,was plenty good for cans and stray dogs,,,never tryed to kill rabbits,,,it is a good trainer,,,you dont have to wave it all over town to reload like the red ryder,,,pellet guns were too powerfull in town to shoot and made too much noise,,this one was a joy to shoot fast,,,all the kids wanted one,,it ballanced good,,and i would not alter it at all,,,with so manny people around now its better than shooting 22 bullets that can kill or hurt for miles...this one can be fun at a camp out ..and i shot a trillion bbs with mine,,and still have both eyes,,it can pinch you at times,,,when you cock it,,,but it is made better than 99% of most junk today...it doesnt jump as bad as a red ryder when you shoot it...we had manny shooting contests,,sometimes i would put wooden match sticks in it and shoot the bugs around our house...of all my childhood fun this was tops,,,i had model airplanes but they were too loud .had a nice dog who hunted with me ,,he always acted like we were after big game,,i have been looking for this for years,,,never did like the other daisey guns ,,the red ryder came as a bb gun or a noise maker pop gun,,,who wants a gun that doubles for a pop gun,,,pellet guns took forever to load and made poping sounds and would scare any small game away before you could even load it,,then you walked around mad looking for deaf animals to shoot,,the 25 could shoot 5 times as fast at least,,it always felt like real bullets,,,my wife left and took the kids,,so i have alot of time now,,i do wonder if the softer bbs they make will shoot in the 25,,,maybe not as far but safer.it has a spring loaded bb feed ....so it doesnt rattle or shift wieght like the red ryder,,,,shoots about 50 times bettween loads,,it was the only thing i could not break,,,had more than one,,but be carefull out side with it,,it looks like a 22 rifle,,and it can damage car windshields,,,or knock the paint off cars,,sometimes we would shoot cheap colas,,after we shock them up,,,they would spray cola everywhere,,

5.0 out of 5 stars Proper take-down method, December 3, 2010

The "new" Daisy Model 25 is a great bb gun, but Daisy left out an important step in the manual.

In order to take this gun down, in addition to removing the take-down screw you MUST also remove the small Phillips head screw directly (3 1/8 inches) behind the take-down screw on the left side of the receiver. You might have to depress the trigger slightly, but the gun should then come apart easily.

The gun CANNOT be taken down without removing this screw.

This gun is easier to store and transport when taken apart.

I had one of these rifles in the 1950s. It wasn't as solid as this one. It had a fancier receiver with some gold detailing but the fore end and stock were plastic and not nearly as robust as the new wooden models. Well done Daisy! You got this one right.

I purchased this BB gun because I still have my old model 25 Daisy pump gun from when I was a boy. It is over 60 years old and still works great. However, the old gun is so special to me I didn't want to damage it, so I purchased a new one. I live in the Smokey Mountains of N.C. and am surrounded by heavy woods. We have all sorts of wildlife in this area including Bears, deer, turkey and even bobcats. The bears are not that big a problem I just hollar at them and chase them with a broom. Most of the time they run away.
However, the &%$#** turkeys, poop on my lawn and I step in it, so I started using the BB gun to chase them back into the woods. It's not unusual to see 20 to 30 at a time. I have to be careful not to hit them in the head because I found it's a VERY vulnerable spot. Once I accidently shot one in the head with the BB gun and it killed him instantly! Normally, the feathers are thick enough so that the BB's simply bounce off. By the way the new BB gun shoots BB's considerably harder than the old one so be careful what you aim at. It is not a toy! The workmanship in the new gun is very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great BB Gun, October 19, 2011

I got the Daisy No. 25 for my son, or so I told his mom, who is no fan of the bb gun. The Daisy is pretty well made. It's mostly metal with a nice wood stock and forearm. It holds 50 bbs in a spring loaded single stack magazine that unscrews at the muzzle so the bbs don't rattle around inside like the Red Ryder. There is even an engraved hunter and mallard ducks on the side of the metal receiver. The trigger assembly and cross bar safety are plastic, but that's okay. Maintenance is simple with a few drops of 20 wt motor oil. Best of all, the No. 25 is a lot of fun to shoot. The No. 25 pump action is great for quickly dropping a row of cans "Wild Bunch" style. I bought a Red Ryder and a No. 25 for my 7 year old son to teach him gun safety and of course to plink in the backyard. He likes the Red Ryder better of course because it was Ralphie's gun in A Christmas Story and it looks like a cowboy saddle gun. But right out of the box, the little guy was nailing milk jugs every time at 20 yards using the rear flip up ghost ring sight. Then he wanted his Red Ryder back. Next week, I'll bet he wants the No. 25. I recommend getting both the Red Ryder, which now has a metal cocking lever, and the Daisy No. 25. You won't regret it... But be sure to teach safe gun handling and don't forget the safety glasses. I would give the No. 25 five stars, and I would buy both Daisy bb guns again at twice the price, if they were made in the USA.
