I ordered this after my sons had a blast (pun intended) with their grandfather's Red Ryder over the holiday break. Some of the reviews gave me pause before placing my order. Let me help allay any fears you may have.

YES: The trigger and cocking mechanism are made of plastic. Considering the metal and wood build of the rest of the gun, it seems like an odd choice to me, too, but it works just fine. We take a little extra care when cocking, and during these cold New England winter days, we keep the fun isolated to the basement so we're not dealing with cold, brittle plastic.

YES: This gun is made in China. If you shop regularly at Wal-Mart or Target, so is a lot of the junk in your house. It's really not that big a deal. It's a $30, low-powered BB gun. If it were made in the USA, but $70, I probably wouldn't have bought it.

NO: It's not inaccurate. Actually, I was quite surprised at how accurate it is. I managed to get very good groupings at a reasonable range. It's not an M4, it's a $30, low-powered BB gun. For teaching proper firearm handling and etiquette to my sons in the basement, it's perfect.

YES: It says the name of the product on the outside of the box. If one were to read the Amazon description of their "Frustration Free Packaging" (the least-expensive shipping option) one would discover that this is the case. This is why there is a check-box asking if you are giving this as a gift. Amazon is not trying to ruin Christmas/your kids birthday. So far, I have had no problems with this BB gun, and thank Daisy for providing this low-cost, entry-level gun.

You know my age. I started shooting smokeless powder burning firearms when I was maybe 14 years old, ans it's been a life long activity for me. I've hand loaded a lot of ammunition. I competed in NRA Hunter Pistol, and IHMSA 200 meter handgun matches. I've fired maybe 10,000 to 20,000 rounds. Why the heck would I order a $25.00 Red Ryder BB gun from Amazon? Here it is. This gun is inexpensive, quiet, and has good accuracy for a BB gun. I have much more expensive pellet rifles also, that will sink 5 pellets into one tiny hole that measures .0" center to center. The Red Ryder will never even come close to doing that. But, for a BB gun, this thing is pretty darn accurate.

I checked the zero of the gun first, and, using the nice Daisy BB's, found it was right on in windage, and just slightly high in elevation. That's at about 17 feet. This was easily zero'd by lowering the rear sight one "tooth". This was shooting off a rest, and with my terrible eyesight. Right about 15-17 feet is the accepted distance of BB long gun competition. My groups ranged from about 7/16" to about 1", with a few fliers. That's pretty good for a BB gun. Not as good as Daisy's own Avanti Champion 499 competition gun, but good enough. This this is pretty quiet too. You won't likely disturb the neighbors. And, using a target setup with a cardboard box ( I use a Costco sized cereal box) and folded cardboard inside the box and a clothes pin to hang your targets, once the sights are adjusted, you can easily set up the target box at 15-17 feet indoors in your house or basement, and shoot any time you want. My setup easily catches and traps the BBs inside the box. And, don't tell anyone, but I collect these fired BBs and reuse them, and they shoot the same sized groups as the new ones.

Bought this for my son for Christmas. Although he just turned thirty, it's a tradition to watch "A Christmas Story", over and over on Christmas day. The BB gun was the last present he opened and he was totally floored. "Best Christmas Ever" were his words. It is the first gun he has ever owned. I had also bought a box of bb's so he spent the next hour or so outside shooting it. I have been an avid hunter for 35 years but never introduced him to the sport. That being said, as far as the gun itself, its a basic gun. One cock of the lever and it's ready to shoot. Accuracy is mediocre to maybe 15-20 yards, then starts dropping fast. Mainly because of the limited power. Make no mistake though, this bb gun can hurt someone if not handled or used correctly. Did not buy this for target practice or to hunt. This bb gun was bought for nostalgic purposes only.

This gun is consistently accurate for a BB gun. Its quiet and reloads quick. Now, what it doesnt do is fire down the center of the sight, thus forcing me to remember some arbitrary point on the sight somewhere about halfway left of the center and a little high @ 30 feet, and well, people don't want to do that when we are trying to have fun shooting targets.

I used to have a Daisy 880, lasted 6 years of constant use before seals gave out, bought another 880 but it wasn't as accurate. I read that Daisy lowered the quality of the gun. So I gave it away. And while the 880 isn't as cheap, portable, or as quick to load, at least it offered a mount and sights that were aligned properly. Id rather have a scope on my gun and not deal with this gun's retarded sight, missing stuff over and over because I don't remember some arbitrary spot..
