Daisy 12 grams CO2 Powerlets,

I had an opportunity to compare Crosman and Daisy brand CO2 powerlets side by side. Daisy is better in some ways, Crosman in others.** see update below**Here is what I found: Amount of CO2 inside: Crosman = 12.33 grams; Daisy 11.60 grams Length of powerlet: Crosman 3.261 +/- 0.010 inches; Daisy 3.273 +/- 0.004 inches (+/- is one standard deviation) Price: equivalent Amount of CO2: advantage Crosman, about 6% more CO2 per powerlet Length: advantage Daisy. For most applications, this parameter is not very critical. However, I used the powerlets in a Hammerli 850 adapter, where two powerlets fit back to back. It turns out that to get reliable punching on both powerlets, the powerlet dimensions must be well controlled. The Daisy powerlets are slightly longer and much more consistent in length. For the Hammerli adapter, it makes the difference between reliable punching and unreliable punching. Price: equivalent. Keep in mind that I was only comparing one batch of each brand. The batches were large (~25 samples of each), but other batches might be different. ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- ** Update, several months later: I've had occasion to test additional batches of both Crosman and Daisy powerlets. In the second batches, it was the Daisy brand that has slightly under 12 grams of CO2, and Crosmans that had slightly more. The difference in length was still there, but only a few thousanths of an inch this time. New bottom line is that I now think both brands are essentially equivalent in all respects.

Before you buy CO2, do the math and figure out the price. Performance-wise, they're all the same, so you can buy purely on price. For whatever reason, this 25-pack of Daisy was a better buy than the 40-pack of Crosman at the time I bought. One thing worth mentioning is that the box is kind of thin and cheap. Amazon didn't pack these well for me, so they were all loose in the much larger box, clinking merrily around. No harm done, but kind of irritating. This is a solid buy. I recommend it if you have CO2 guns.

These are your typical CO2 cartridges, used by air-guns and the like. I bought these solely based on the value they provided, given the cheap price. I have no complaints about the actual product, and the performance seems to be on par with every other C02 cartridge I've tried. If there is one thing Daisy could improve upon, it's the packaging. When the box from Amazon was delivered, I picked it up and immediately heard a unsettling rattling sound coming from inside the Amazon shipping box. Upon opening the Amazon box, I discovered the Daisy box inside had come open, spilling all 25 CO2 cartridges throughout the large shipping box. Fortunately, all 25 cartridges were in the larger Amazon box, and I just had to re-pack the Daisy box with the CO2 cartridges. The fix? About 2 cents of tape over the top of the Daisy box. Unbelievably, there is *nothing* keeping the Daisy box shut the way it ships from Amazon. A simple, small piece of tape over the lid would have prevented this. Regardless, these are a good value, and I'd have no problem recommending them, as long as you are prepared to potentially play a game of "25 pick-up" when your Amazon box arrives...
