5.0 out of 5 stars Seattle-ite Kate Wolf is an amazing talent!
Jazzy, funky, pop-y, big band-y...Kate's album has got it all. And she's got a million dollar smile to boot! I'll be honest and gush about the fact that Secrets Aside is my favorite song on the album. I am in love with Kate's voice and the fact that she plays a great guitar doesn't hurt either. YOU GO KATE! Play your music from coast to coast...the nation needs to...

3.0 out of 5 stars A warning, not a rating.
FYI, this album is not by the late Kate Wolf of Sonoma County, California. It is by another artist in Washington using that name. This message is intended to avoid any confusion. - Max Wolf (California Kate Wolf's son)

3.0 out of 5 stars Will the real Kate Wolf please stand up?, October 22, 2001

This is a fine debut album of a certain sort. For those like me, however, who assumed it was by the original, one and only, clear-voiced, honest and plain-spoken singer-songwriter-poet, the late Kate Wolf, it is a gross disappointment. Some of us think the earlier Kate Wolf the finest realistic folk lyricist of the past 30 years. A previous reviewer's incautious suggestion that the original Kate Wolf may have postumously usurped the identity of this later artist can most charitably be viewed as an unguarded malappropism. While I would not attribute any but the best of motives to this interesting young artist using her own name, I must also echo the honest, plainly-stated sentiments of the ORIGINAL Kate Wolf's son, Max Wolf, in his review of this album--don't make the same mistake I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific quirky jazz-pop, February 8, 2001

Kate Wolf's solo debut is an utter delight, one of those albums that manages to be charmingly eccentric without overtly trying to be weird. Fans of anyone from Eddi Reader to Oranj Symphonette to Lullaby Baxter to the Chenille Sisters to Rickie Lee Jones should find plenty to like here.

As for Max Wolf's comment below, his phrasing suggests that he thinks the Seattle-ite Kate Wolf is somehow trying to foster confusion between herself and his late mother, which is highly unlikely. What good would come of this Kate Wolf being mistaken for an uninteresting folkie? More to the point, this Kate Wolf is "using that name," as he puts it, because unlike the former Kathryn Louise Allen, she was born with it.
