PreSchool-In Coo!, the duckling visits with a bee, a caterpillar, a mouse, a frog, a cow, and some sheep before being reunited with her mother. Children will enjoy the repetition, and will love to chant the animal sounds. While Mama Duck says "Quack, quack," Daisy says, "Coo!" In Day Out, little duck and Mama Duck set off to see Granny. They go "Up and up Slippery Bank,/slip, slip, slop!-Down and under Weepy Willow,/trip, trip, trop!- [and] Through Long Grassy Meadow/swish, swish, swosh!" In both titles, the double-page oil paintings jump off the pages. Simmons's use of blues and greens is especially striking. Children will love this adorable, yellow duck.
