Book Description

March 1, 2012 7 - 10 yearsDaisy
Curly-haired Daisy likes picking lemons on sunny days, playing kickball and making long dandelion chains. But more than any of these things, she loves words and even compiles lists of her favorites in a bright green notebook covered with purple polka dots. When Daisy's beloved teacher, Miss Goldner, becomes engaged and must move to another town, Daisy decides to give her the ultimate gift: the perfect word. But with so many good words to choose from, finding just the right one isn't easy.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"As the protagonist struggles with a difficult peer relationship and takes readers through her day-to-day life, there's enough tension to keep youngsters engaged. Daisy's irrepressible but realistic enthusiasm for life is charming and irresistible. Her story is a perfect next step for children who have outgrown Jane O'Connor's 'Fancy Nancy' books but aren't quite ready for Andrew Clements's 'Frindle'." --School Library Journal

5.0 out of 5 stars Teachers will love this book! April 15, 2012
By J.K.
Format:Hardcover
I read this book to my second grade class, and the children couldn't wait for our read aloud time each day. The story is delightful, and Daisy's passion sparked a class discussion about each student's favorite word. The conversation then inspired every child to put pencil to paper as a means to share those words.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Book May 8, 2012
Format:Hardcover
Daisy's Perfect Word captures the innocence, immediacy and intensity of a child thrilled by the pure magic of language and the written word. It took me joyfully, tearfully, back to my own childhood crush on reading. By the book's end -- and I was reading this charmingly child-size volume alone -- I was sobbing. Feder is a skillful wordsmith with clear and loving empathy with Daisy's totally engaged life. Sandra Feder has four children. Lucky them, and lucky us. I'll be reading this, with my grandchildren tucked around me, ASAP.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT! April 19, 2012
A Kid's Review
Format:Hardcover
When I finished the last page of this PERFECT book, I asked my mom "can I have a journal to write words like Daisy did?" I loved reading this book! It was cleverly written, and I loved how it made me think about what was going to come next. I couldn't wait to find out what the perfect word was. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves words and who loves to read.
