I already have two of these reels and have given another to my 9-year old grandson. Bought this one to replace other brand reel. Best reel around for catching BIG panfish and average-size largemouth (I have landed up to six pounders). This reel stands up to toughest pound for pound freshwater fishes----non-native tropical fish (Oscars and Mayan Cichlids) weighing up to 2 pounds found in Florida's Everglades . If it can stand up to these MOST aggresive fighters, it can take on just about any small- to mid-sized fish.

Very nice. I fish a lake heavy with cyprus trees with fish that are partial to light lures (trick worms). trying to use my baitcaster in tight tree cover and light presentations was just to cumbersom(and full of rat nests). This reel has been great!! my only complaint is the tic-tic-tic sound of reeling in. I guess im just use to the silence of baitcasters and open reels. There is a switch that turns it off (the small one just above the crank with the silver screw in the picture) but beware when a bass strikes, if you let go of the crank, the line goes right back out without drag and the lunker is gone!

I found this reel to be a bit on the heavy side with a sturdy die casting. When I removed the handle screw to make it a left hand retrieve I was surprised to see the white plastic bearing broken in two pieces. This reel is also quite noisy and the supplied monofilament line is of poor quality. The casting button is also loose and appears to be a weak link in the design. Now I feel like I'm stuck with it although still functional. Made in Thailand. Disappointing.

I've owned a variety of reels and nothing holds up like this one. I have 3 young grandsons, and have spent a considerable amount of time fixing cheap reels when we're suppose to be having a relaxing time together. So for this Xmas ther're all getting a new Daiwa. Maybe now I can kick back and enjoy a beer while we fish.

Even though this reel is a level wind reel, it is not to smooth once you use it regularly. I have the silver series spincast reels (Daiwa) and they are far superior even without the level wind.
