Never tried it but...,

To anyone reading this that ever bought a reel with line on it.... NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, use the line that is on the reel. It is always junk line meant to grab attention. Any reelmaker worth their salt knows that line choice is up to the angler.
Soooo, if Mr. Lance wants to complain about his reel not having line, let him ask his shaman why the world is sooo cruel. And get out of his way if you meet him near the waters edge. You may get a hook where you don't want it.

Reel is cheaply made junk, rod is simply OK,

My 9 year old daughter managed to snap the handle off after only 5 trips. The drag is horrible, it's clunky feeling and not at all a 'value' reel. The rod is fine, and above average for this introductory level, which is why it got the two stars that it did. I put a Pflueger Trion reel on it and it's working much better for her that way.

This rod is not a bad little set-up. I fish for Trout is small creeks and rivers and so far it has worked well for that type fishing. However, I ordered one with a multi-bearing drive. Just make sure you double check what you're ordering and you should be fine. For the money, it is a pretty good little reel and the rod is holding up fine too.

so- i ordered this from Boaters World using amex points. the rod and reel arrived with NO LINE ON THE REEL. What???? so, i tried to call and evidently i got someone from india. they knew nothing about it and couldn't help me- but wished me a pleasant day. so i tried their "on-line chat helpline" all they said was "we'll check on the missing line and get back to you via e-mail." a horrible buying experince with customer service to match.
i don't know if daiwa typically sends their reels with no line, but if so- be prepeared to take your nice new rod and reel into a sporting goods store to spend yet more money to have fishing line installed on your nice new reel... |
