Product Description

The Daiwa SGT50H Seagate Star Drag Saltwater Conventional Reel makes use of a corrosion-proof composite frame and side plates to house a rugged, work horse gear train. The aluminum spool starts fast but is kept in control by centrifugal brake system. It's a great, all-around reel at a very reasonable price.

Pro: It is lightweight with good drag and fast retrieve capability. I have no issue with long casting or bring in big fish.
Con: The yellow aluminum retainer rings on both sides of the frame where the bolts are mounted, are rasor thin. My pole
fell down from the rack on a fishing boat and both rings are scratched and bent badly. I just hope that the graphite frame will hold up better. I am surprised at this weak ring design from Daiwa.

Light, holds 600 yds of P line, and drag is excellent. Used for drift fishing and had no problems... landed 20 tuna and 2 big bull mahi at 45lbs.

This reel is light and easy ti cast. But it strong enough to pull up GT that are great fighters and give you a run for your money! When you cast it it fly in the air with not hard to get it far out there!

My first conventional reel was a Penn 4/0 that I love to bird nest. After casting this little bad boy bird nesting has become far and few between. The magnetic system works well. I loaded this up for 50 pound mono with no problems. I would definately recomend this to someone who is just starting out using conventional reels or someone who fish at night often.

Didn't really know what I was eating when I purchased this reel. The description was vague. No spoil size, no drag rating, pretty basic description. Since I have gotten it I have used this reel extensively. I have 100yards 80lb mono backing with 275 yards of 80lb power pro. I have landed several 4' sharks as well as a 6' shark. Many skates, stingrays and just recently took it out deep sea fishing where it performed wonderfully dragging up 40-60 lb amberjacks and held its own perfectly against a 40lb king mackerel. Grouper stood no chance with this reel. I have it mounted on a pen alley medium heavy action pole and the combos is proving to be a formidable opponent for whatever decides to bite. The casting is smooth and works well with pier fishing as well as smooth operation for trolling and deep sea bottom fishing. On the pier I can cast easily 50-60 yards with a 4oz sinker on.Would buy again.

Its simply beautiful! Right handed friendly. My husband (the fishing equipment pro in the house) was quite impressed w/this reel. Even said he was surprised @ what a great reel this is! Got my line put on & going fishing in 2 weeks-can't wait!

This is an excellent reel. The price made it even better. Hubby said reel was as much as $100 more on othet sites.

Paired the Seagate 50 with 60 pound test and a new Shimano rod. The over 6.0 reel speed did the trick for jigging and luring yellowtail into the boat. Great value for the money.
