Based in Hood River, Oregon, DAKINE was founded in Maui, Hawai'i in 1979 by longtime surfer, Rob Kaplan. DAKINE'S first product, a revolutionary new surf leash, quickly gained worldwide popularity. This first leash led to more surfing related products, built to withstand the punishing conditions of the surf on the north shore of Hawai'i. In Hawaiian slang, "Da Kine" means the best and the company has lived up to this standard through attention to detail, focus on accessories, and a notoriously thorough design process.

My husband has this backpack. He fits a dinosaur of an XPS laptop in it (17"), a 15" inspiron dell, & a 10" dell mini laptop, all with their power supplies. He has also had to fit the 2 bigger laptops & a professional camera w/extra lenses in it (he is a web designer & is always traveling with at least 1 computer). I am amazed with how well it is holding up, especially with all the weight & stuff he crams in it. I would highly recommend this backpack to anyone. It travels well & is comfortable on the shoulders. We have had it for 1 year so far & anticipate having it for a lot more. His previous Dakine backpack he had from high school up until about a year ago (after 10+ years, the zipper finally broke) and this was the replacement. Hopefully it will hold up as well as the last.

Love the bag, tons of well thought out pockets, a reasonable price (snagged it for 55 with free shipping) it's aesthetically pleasing with no offensive design decisions. It sits very comfortably on your back as well. The only reason I rated it as a 4 is because I've only had it for a few weeks and haven't gotten a feel for how durable the material used to construct the exterior of the bag is.

The pack was very well made and arrived well in time for my boyfriend's birthday. He loves all the pockets and the herringbone was a nice color and texture. The security pocket and sunglasses pockets are great ideas and very handy. All in all we are very pleased with the purchase. It has only been a month so we will see how well it holds up but it looks and feels very sturdy.
