Amazon.com Product Description

Sometimes you need a ton of luggage space when traveling, sometimes you don't. Enter the Dakine Split Convertible luggage, which accommodates both your needs in the same package. That's because the Split Convertible is actually two bags in one, with a set of straps that turns the luggage into a single large suitcase most of the time, and into two separate bags the rest of the time. Both bags are checkable, so you don't need to hesitate to split them up.

The bag splits into 2 checkable bags for added versatility.
When combined, however, they act just like a large roller bag, with a retractable handle and a set of high-quality urethane wheels. And with a generous 6,425 cubic inches of combined space, you'll have plenty of room for your clothes, sports gear, and accessories. Other features include a sturdy 400-denier nylon dobby and 600-denier polyester construction, locking zipper cars, and easy-access openings. The Split Convertible measures 32 by 17 by 13.5 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 11 pounds. Dakine bags carry a lifetime warranty in North America and a two-year warranty in the rest of the world.

About Dakine
Based in Hood River, Oregon, DAKINE was founded in Maui, Hawai'i in 1979 by longtime surfer, Rob Kaplan. DAKINE'S first product, a revolutionary new surf leash, quickly gained worldwide popularity. This first leash led to more surfing related products, built to withstand the punishing conditions of the surf on the north shore of Hawai'i. In Hawaiian slang, "Da Kine" means the best and the company has lived up to this standard through attention to detail, focus on accessories, and a notoriously thorough design process.

With its reputation for top quality products and attention to detail, DAKINE quickly grew beyond its surfing roots and has become the standard in board sports accessories for the top athletes in the worlds of snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, mountain biking, windsurfing, and kiteboarding, as well as surfing.

To better serve the growing worldwide demand for DAKINE product, a factory and distribution center were opened in Hood River, Oregon in 1986 and the facility soon replaced operations on Maui's north shore to become the principal factory and point of distribution. DAKINE's Oregon location, in the heart of the Gorge and the base of Mount Hood--a hot spot with North American windsurfers and snowboarders--also helps the company maintain its competitive edge by giving the product development team a demanding new environment for developing and testing products. A testament to the standards and success of DAKINE product, the pro team roster reads like a who's-who of action sports.

Today, DAKINE offers a complete range of innovative products, including sport-specific and street-savvy backpacks, bags, travel gear, and accessories as well as a fashionable girl's bag collection. The company remains focused on building durable, innovative products of the best quality for the most demanding action sports athletes. The original quest led by a group of dedicated surfers has taken on a life of its own and has spread throughout all board sports. For 30 years, this passion has given DAKINE its longevity in the action sports industry and has personified its reputation for excellence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gear bag., August 12, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I skydive and if I have to travel it means I have to take a lot of gear with me. My gear is well over 50 lbs in total. This gives me a way to have all my gear in a single package but allows me to break it in half when I have to check it so I don't go over-weight.

The price is right for the quality. Wheels are rugged and roll well on gravel and other non smooth surfaces.

Great bag.

1.0 out of 5 stars limited lifetime warranty, July 2, 2010
This review is from: Dakine Men's Split Convertible Luggage (Sports)
The zipper on the luggage broke. I have been using the convertible for the last four years. Contacted the warranty dept.and was told they do not fix zippers. I asked what the warranty did cover and was told that under normal wear and tear if something broke it would not be covered only if it was a manufacturing defect. I asked if a zipper broke would that be considered a manufacturing defect and was told no. I asked if the luggage was one year old and the zipper broke would it be covered and was told yes. Then I asked that the reason my bag was not covered was due to the age of the bag and was told yes. So then I asked what does "Lifetime Warranty" mean then was told only if the luggage was around one year old then they would back up the warranty. I then said that is misleading to say "Liftime" with warranty. I explained that when I bought Patagonia, REI or North Face products they fix or replace without any questions- their response was "we are not that kind of companies". I was told quite rudely they could not help. By the way they have changed the product and it has actually become more difficult to separate or connect together.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bag Bummer, November 12, 2010
By
Erin Patricia Quigley (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dakine Men's Split Convertible Luggage (Sports)
I bought this bag to replace a previous model, which I LOVE, but which is finally giving up the ghost after seeing quite a few cargo holds and luggage handlers. My main fear is that the zipper which holds the two parts of the bag together will give, leaving only two buckled straps in charge of keeping the separate elements together. Apparently replacing/repairing this zipper is not considered part of the LIFETIME warranty. Hmmm. Because it's a large bag, each side of the bag can get pretty heavy, and a couple of straps and some velcro around the thing does NOT do the job. On a recent trip, TSA had even failed to re-buckle the straps. Luckily, the zipper held. Also, I used to be able to slide something (Camera tripod, ie) in between the two sides and zip it in, which was great for last-minute additions. Imagine my dismay when the new bag arrived yesterday, but doesn't even HAVE a zipper to hold the bag together. Traveling with this bag will guarantee that at least one part of it gets lost. There's no substantial way to lock the two pieces together. You might as well just tie a couple pieces of webbing around your bag and hope for the best. This is a horrible design mod, obviously conceived by someone who doesn't travel seriously like I do (50Kmiles+ per year). It gets 2 stars because even though I don't like the design, it is well-manufactured with quality materials. I'm bummed that I have to find a new bag after getting so attached to Dakine's earlier version. I ordered 2 of these, and am returning both. Lame.
