Cool Smooth,
By Lee Armstrong (Winterville, NC United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Dakota Moon (Audio CD)
Dakota Moon's debut CD from 1998 sounds amazingly fresh 7 years later. The musicianship is stellar and the harmonies touch the sky! The opener "Another Day Goes By" is one of the most addictive tracks with its upbeat message and joyful chorus, "I want to be an eagle soaring high, sign my name across the sky; I gotta break free before I die, before another day goes by." "Snow In July" has Ty Taylor on lead vocals and sets a delicious groove in this breakup song guaranteed to set your toe tapping, "I thought that everything was fine but now you're turning on a dime & moving on." "She Knows" is an excellent track with Malloy's percussion giving a romantic march beat juxtaposed with the lads' soaring harmonies. "We Won't Be Alone Tonight" is also a great upbeat track with Dakota Moon's cool smooth vocal approach. The slow weeper "Black Moon Day" is a gorgeous melody with cello giving it a somber depth. "Dakota Moon" is a stunning debut whose musical quality should keep it from fading. Enjoy!

Screw Vibe - Dakota Moon ROCKS!,
By Nick (Fontana, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dakota Moon (Audio CD)
I've been a Dakota Moon fan for the past 4 years. I first saw them perform live on Channel 5 Morning News in Los Angeles. I was instantly hooked. I bought the CD immediately and fell in love with this group. They have immense talents as musicians, singers and songwriters. When I read the Vibe review today (11/19/2001) I was so mad! Those (...) at Vibe don't know a (...) thing about REAL music, which Dakota Moon plays. I've waited impatiently for the band to release another CD and the wait if finally over. The only reason DK doesn't get the exposure and respect they deserve is because they don't sing about sex, drugs and violence. (...) Dakota Moon rocks forever!

Ohh my god =), this is brilliant. Even though i have had their album (self titled) for some years now... was released in 1998.. and maybe a little later in europe (denmark) maybe late 1999.. Then i have had it since then, i loved/love this album SOOO freaking much , that i had to go buy 2 copies more =).. Don't know why but i do that when i hear something as beautiful as what these guys have come out with (then) it's stunning, superb and simply brilliant.. Actually i'd wish they would release a dvd concert along with all of their music videos, and i would defenetly go and buy it, if not maybe several =) copies. Please come visit denmark some day.... You are one of my top 5 groups of all time..
I've never stopped listening to songs like ANOTHER DAY GOES BY and SWEET LADY JANE, and also SING YOU TO SLEEP. Those are my all time favorite, even my mom (49 now) and Myself i'm 23), loves the songs/you guys, so everybody, go buy this album NOOOOW !! Thanks from Mads a true everlasting fan from Denmark... =)

I wish these guys would get the respect they deserve. I picked up their second offering, "Place to Land", when I heard their song on the radio, and loved just about every song on the CD. It's rare to feel this way about a greatest hits collection, let alone an individual album. Then I decided to pick up their first self titled album. Jackpot again. Both of these CD's are a gem! These tunes are extremely catchy and I guarantee you'll be singing them to yourself long after your first listen. Great CD to listen to when you need a pick-me-up. I can't believe D.M. is still not that well known. I'm not sure if they're making another CD, but if they are, I'll be first in line.

New Album In January!,
By Blakely (Glasgow, Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dakota Moon (Audio CD)
Once I saw this band in VH1 that was it...I bought the album over Amazon and loved it. The Vibe review simply casts aside this band as another poor quality imitation band of rnb...but they are wrong. Since the last album the band Dakota Moon are now currently being exposed to the public on NBC with their new song, "Looking For a Place To Land" which echos the upbeat "Another Day Goes By". It is being used as a backing to their new Fall show ads. The new single hits radio October 15th and the new album "A Place to Land" will be out in January, four years after this album. Check out the official website and Dakota Moon Fansite.net for more info by search for Dakota Moon on search engines and the Yahoo! Club for Dakota Moon.

HAS ANY ONE HEARD OF "DAKOTA MOON"?,
By Jessica Lynn "may_bubbles" (Pennsylvania, United States) - See all my reviews

I had never heard of the band Dakota Moon before. That is until I heard one of their song playing at work entitled, "A Promise I Make". I fell in love with it instantaneously. I did a little fishing to find out who sings the song and indeed it was Dakota Moon. So out of sheer curiosity, I bought the album. I put the album in my CD player and had fallen asleep while listening to it...that's how soothing their voices are! My favorite song is still "A Promise I Make", but I also love, "If I Can't Love You", Your Smiling Face", and "Til We Meet Again" I doubt many people have heard of this group, but if you like soulful and calming music with deep lyrics to boot, I recommend this album.

Full Moon rising....,

Don't dare listen to the VIBE review! I don't know why the critics have felt the need to slam these guys over and over again. Perhaps the concept of a group of talented young black musicians playing heartfelt, acoustic music was too much for them. This cd is great. Every song on here is very good including the James Taylor cover. Nothing wrong with that! These guys are a breath of fresh air. A good mix of pop, acoustic rock and R&B. And they play THEIR OWN instruments and write THEIR OWN songs. What a foreign concept! The only critisisms I can give is that there is a little too many "Love and heartbreak" songs on here and they really should have gotten a live drummer. The fact that there is drum machines on most tracks takes away from the lush, acoustic vibe. Look for the hidden track on here after track #13. A great song that has a beautiful Spanish-tinged nylon string guitar solo.

not what i expected,
By Leah "cow maiden" (tallahassee, fl) - See all my reviews

I learned of Ty Taylor from watching Rockstar INXS, and based on the reviews i was expecting an album of more of a rock persuasion. This is NOT a rock album. This is more of an r&b album, it is mellow music. There is no doubt that the band has talent, and it is easy to listen to. But if like me, you were looking for something that displayed Ty Taylor's rock ability, this is probably not the album for you. To me it has a bit of a boy band feel, ballads and harmoies. It is a good album, but not what i expected and if i had actually heard the album before hand i probably would have opted for something else.

What a drive,
By Christopher Morandi (Hamburg Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dakota Moon (Audio CD)
I've had this CD for about a year now and I found myself surfing to find out if this group has released another CD. Vibe obviously cannot recognize talent, originality and the ability to surpass the emptiness of the norm. This group has all the musicality of any boy group in their collective pinkies. They can rock, groove and swoon. And the fact that they're black makes this album even more important. It's refreshing to experience musicians making the kind of music they're obviously passionate about without succumbing to the demands of the pop culture. Track 6 "If I can't Love You" battles the beauty and sinceretity of Maxwell's "Whatever, wherever, whenever." These boys deserve to have a long and successful career. I just hope they continue to make more music. Raw vocals like this are not heard everyday. I wish them all the best for my sake - I want more

Full "Moon",

Disregard the Vibe review. Dakota Moon's CD is absolutely wonderful. It is powerful, fresh, QUALITY music. A healthy melange of R&B, Pop, Rock, even a smidge of country. My favorite songs are "A Promise I Make" (the one that made me call the radio station and demand to know where I could get the CD), and "Won't Be Alone Tonight" (I dare you not to tap your feet and snap your fingers!). If you like Babyface, Boyz II Men, Eric Clapton, Tony Rich -- you'll love Dakota Moon.
