Editorial Reviews

The organ of la Dalbade, recently restored and never recorded, now stands out as one of the greatest
representatives of French romantic organ building. Composed especially for this recording, the transcriptions
enable the instrument to reveal sounds as no other work would. Part of the UGAB collection, devoted to the
world of the organ, this release features an 80-page color booklet.

When a wonderful instrument as built by an unknown French organ builder is restored, history and posterity reap the rewards and such is the case here with the stunning 3/61 instrument as built in 1888 by Eugene Puget and sons. Located in the Notre Dame La Dalbade, Toulouse, the glorious acoustics combined with this fabulous instrument makes for a truly exciting sound. The Puget family was known for its outstanding workmanship in all of their instruments from building to tonal refinishing in the respective churches. When one thinks of 19th century organ building, Cavaille-Coll or Merklin are discussed; however, now the name of Puget must be added. The company continued through the respective Sons to build instruments well into the 1920's. This instrument has the only 32' stop ever built by the company: 32' Bourdon. Charles-Marie Widor played the dedicatory recital here in 1888.
The program selected here certainly is a unique one for 21st century concerts; however, Yyes Rechsteiner has done his research and presents a recital of transcriptions as well as original compositions to totally demonstrate the versatility of this excellent instrument: The program: Camille Saint-Saens - (1835-1921): Danse Macabre, Op. 40; Frederick Chopin - (1810-1849: Nocturne en mi be mol mejeur, Op. 9; Ludwig van Beethoven - (1770-1827): Larghetto en la mineur de la sixieme symphonie- 'Pastorale'; Louis James Alfred Lefebure-Wely - (1817-1869): Elevation ou Communion en la mineur; Cesar Franck - (1822-1890): Fantasie en la majeur pour orgue; Charles-Marie Widor - (1844-1937): Andante de la neuvieme symphonie - 'Gothique' - pour orgue, Op. 70; Frederick Chopin: Marche funebre de la sonate pour piano, Op. 35; Hector Berlioz - (1803-1869): Marche au supplice de la Symphonie Fantastique, Op.
