The great thing about these trays is that you can put water into them and know that the roots will get a good drink. I usually fill them up twice when I'm watering. Also, if you want to stake your plants to a pole, you can put the pole into one of the irrigation holes. I use the trays for much more then just tomatoes and I think they help all of the big plants produce better because the water is directed right where you want it - down to the roots.

I ordered these trays for two reasons: first, I hoped they would deliver water directly to the plant roots instead of the water running all over the ground, and second, I hoped the red reflection from the trays would encourage my tomato plant growth. I live on the southern Oregon coast, and the climate where I live is not condusive to growing tomatoes; it just doesn't get warm enough. The trays worked EXCELLENT for both purposes. I am VERY happy with them and will purchase them again!

I can think of a million different reasons why this cheap plastic try might work....but in the end, it doesn't even matter. What matters is that it consistently delivers bigger, stronger, plants with higher yields than other options. See my picture for obvious proof of its power.

I have both these and the tomato craters. These are flimsy, they have "feet" on them which makes them sit uneven. They are one piece and If you try too hard to separate the sides to get it around the tomato stem they will crack. The hole around the plant stem is very small and you have to be careful not to harm the plant.
These don't hold up over the years because the sun makes them even more brittle. They do help keep slugs and snails away from your plants but the tomato crater is a superior product. See my review on those.
