I ordered Owl because we had a pair of ducks who had somehow discovered our tiny little pool, and had proceeded to land on the deck every day, swim in the pool, fowl the pool, the deck, everything, with their fowl poop. So, after an internet search on how to scare away ducks, I ordered Owl.

Technically, Owl does everything it is described to do. It looks real. It looks mean. The solar-powered head turns, as long as the sun can hit the solar panel. We moved it around the pool, as suggested. The ducks weren't fooled. They kept coming, sometimes flying near or landing right next to Owl. I'm pretty sure by now they have Friended Owl on Facebook.

We resorted to other measures . . . and we appear to have gotten rid of the ducks . . . first by spraying them with the hose whenever they arrived (they always announce their arrival with their quacks), sometimes by throwing tennis balls at them (never hitting them, because our aim isn't that good, but good enough to scare them) and then by hanging / stringing obstacles over the pool to make it uninviting to land / swim in. Haven't seen them in about a week. Owl has filed a grievance for loss of companionship.

The good news about Owl is that a stray cat ventured into our back yard the other day, stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Owl, then slowly backed away and exited the yard via the same path he had entered. Wish I had a video of that. I don't think they are Friends on Facebook yet.

Was looking for something to scare away the birds as they were pooping all over my deck.
Bought a stationary hawk statue which helped but still some stragglers would still do their deed.
Came upon this owl that moves its head around in the sun ever 2 minutes and seems to have scared away the rest of the birds. Even surprises visitors who aren't prepared to have the head moving around.
Had problem with inital delivery but once spoke with company they sent out another one right away.
Seems to do what I hoped it would.

What a great product this solar powered owl is.
The squirrels and blue jays are no longer bothering my plants out on my deck.
The eyes are very scary!
The head swivels by way of the solar panel on the back of the head.

Highly recommended!

I purchased this owl to keep squirrels from destroying my corn crop as they have done every year the past few. It must have worked as no squirrels got in my corn!
The owl is very realistic-looking, the eyes are very "intense", the head perfectly balanced, and the solar cell worked great. His head would make a loud "click" sound every 4 mins. or so, and gently spin around slowly. It worked from about 7AM sun until about 7PM every day. Very happy with product.
TIP: You may have to get creative to find a way to mount it. I simply went to Home Depot and bought a length of 1 1/4" PVC pipe and hacksawed it down to about 6' long. Drove this into the ground until sturdy, and the hole in the base of the owl fits perfectly onto the pipe. It rests there atop the pipe perfectly balanced & does it's job!

Not one to normally write reviews but when I buy a product that exceeds my expectations, I feel an obligation to write one. This solar powered owl has been working as advertised and it has kept the birds out of my backyard. I move it whenever I think to do so, which probably averages about once a month. I have it mounted on a pole in my backyard. It is about 6 or 7 feet above the ground and that seems to work just fine. I am seriously considering purchasing another for my front yard, but I worry that it may be stolen.

I have a serious woodpecker problem. I have tried lots of different plastic devices and creatures, and the solar owl works the best. It is also the most expensive, however. I have attached an image to show the owl mounted on a post near my house. The post is on a small base that allows for easy moving of the entire contraption. The head turns in a realistic way provided there is sunshine. It does not rotate slowly, but snaps around, which is I think more realistic. It works very well to keep the woodpeckers away from the house provided the owl+platform is moved every 2-4 days. Left in the same location for a week, and the woodpeckers will attack the house again unless it is sunny and the head moves.

Note in the image how realistic the eyes are. They did an excellent job with the motion of the head and the realism of the eyes. The coloring is good, and the base can be mounted to a post for easy moving. I used a dead tree branch (see the image).

Dont put the owl on the ground. That doesnt work. The owl needs to be up high, at least 5 feet off the ground to convince the woodpeckers it is hunting.

Worked great for about two weeks. The silence was great. In fact the act of moving the owl to a different location would make the doves fly away in terror. Then the territorial birds figured it out and did what they do best, defecate. Still after about a month, there are less birds than before; could be due to the fact that new birds that fly into my backyard experience the duress of the owl. The solar panels make the head spin around when the sun is out. On a dark cloudy day, the head won't spin; not enough sun I guess. I filled it up with sand and it stays on my fence posts. The owl is made of good quality materials and looks very life like. The eyes look real. Scared the daylights out of one of my kids the first time it was seen. The dog barked at it for a while until she got used to it. If anything, it makes for a nice lawn ornament. I still enjoy watching the head spin around. Update: Wind storm came thru and blew the sand filled owl off the post and broke the head off. I sent an email to the manufacture's customer service and have heard nothing back from them. I wanted the schematic on how to hook up all the gadgets. So I put the head back on the owl but the solar panels no longer activate the head. Also there is no way to permantly fasten the owl to anything. No pre-existing holes to screw the owl to a post.
