They Work!,

I have always used old garden hose as "snakes" in the past for our two 15 X 60 ft. gardens. This year the rabbits "caught on" to my tricks. I purchased two of these inflatable snakes thinking "What the heck, it's worth a try!", and THEY WORK! No rabbits in my beans or anything else in the garden. It is October and I and put them -inflated - in my garden shed. We live in the country and tend to get mice in the old wooden shed - between the snakes and the fake owl in my shed I have NO MICE! Will purchase one or two more.P.S. Remember to tell your friends and family they snakes aren't real. They have scared at least five people who have passed by my garden which, to me, shows how lifelike they must look to pests!

Too Fragile,

I also use scare-eye balloons and Mylar tape in my annual fig defense project, so I'm not sure which element of the project is the most effective, or even if all elements need to be present to be effective. However, I once saw a cardinal, and another time, a starling, suddenly change course and veer away from the tree as they were about to land where the "snake" was hanging in the tree. I interpret this to mean that they noticed the snake at the last second before they landed and were thus scared away by it. Usually, even the local, acclimated, birds will not eat the figs which are directly in front of a snake's head. However, these snakes are easily punctured and then deflate. It appears to me that climbing animals, such as opossums and raccoons, are in no way inhibited by the snakes, and simply climb right over them, puncturing them with their claws in the process. All but 2 of my 5 snakes now have tiny punctures and are now useless. I have tried to fix the punctures, but so far, I have been unsuccessful. These things are way too expensive to buy if you can only get a season or 2 of use from them, but if you don't have raccoons and opossums in you area, perhaps the snakes will last longer.

This is no 6 feet long... its curled into a 3 foot long snake that is very small and not worth the money at all. Such a shame amazon. Come on.

We use this in the garden over the tomato plants. The birds don't like it. They do tend to deflate, so we keep refilling them. You do need to place them early in the game. Don't wait till you have a lot of trouble. (One day had a bird above that loves our tomatoes. I picked up the snake to move it & didn't realize I was squeezing it, which made it move like a snake. The bird above started sending out danger-alert calls to the other birds. Found that was a good one. So I tend to do that when I re-inflate them.)

This snake actually freaked me out one morning while out getting the paper. After a few days of moving her around the garden, eventually hanging her in the tomato cages, we had no more bird damage. The chipmunks are another matter...

The Giant 6ft snake we purchased has made for comments from family and friends but has done nothing for the birds that keep nesting in our trees at night messing on our deck. Worth the price for peoples curiosity but for what it was intended. Possibly it would work in a garden setting.

The snakes are doing exactly what we wanted them to do...Ssquirrels and birds aren't "tasting" our garden and fig tree.

Had a wood pecker outside my bedroom window. Bought this and he was gone the first day and never came back. left outdoors and found it to be of good quality and always inflated up no problems. Birds hate snakes.

We were having a dozen or more frogs in our pool at night- between this snake and some cheap rubber ones from Walmart, no more frogs! Would definitely give it try...
