The owl arrived exactly as described. I used it to rid my workshop of birds trying to nest inside. It could have hung from the rafter but I chose to weight it with sand and set it on the attic flooring. The birds are gone.

So far the woodpeckers have stopped putting holes in the corners of my
house! I hope they keep up the good work!

Bought this owl locally to try to keep the various birds out of my vegetable garden. No luck at all with that! I even tried moving it to different places in the garden, but the doves and smaller birds just ignore it. My daughter brought up a good point. Owls are nocturnal and birds are day creatures so why should they be afraid of owls??

I purchased the horned owl in order to keep several doves out of my back yard. I placed the decoy just above our poolside gas torch. Two days later, not only did the decoy NOT keep the doves at bay, the doves actually built a nest in the gas torch!!!! The doves continue to remain in the nest and since had two babies which are nearly 10 days old.

As a last comment, you can purchase the same (or very similar) horned owl at Home Depot cheaper.

I bought an owl just like this at Lowes because EVERY DAY my new car was getting crapped on. And not just once.. like the entire car was getting crapped on. I had my husband put it on top of the pole next to our house and the birds are staying at least two houses away. So now someone else can get their car pooped on.

The 16" molded owl by Dalen is an effective bird deterrent. I use these in three applications: one on an 8-foot pole positioned within our blueberry patch; four (also on 8-foot poles) in strategic locations within our corn patches; and one on the boat to keep gulls away. Upon setting the owls up in the second of our three corn patches, the birds made an immediate fuss when the owls appeared and were put on their posts. The birds stayed out of the third corn patch, as the owls were set up just before the corn was ripe. It is also effective if the owls are moved around or at least re-positioned on the posts; otherwise the birds get smart.

The owls are an inexpensive and very effective way to keep birds and chipmunks away. The eyes are extremely penetrating, and they are what do the work. I highly recommend these.

I have had two of these owls going for 5 years, and just acquired an additional two.

I paid $15, free shipping. I think the owl is extremely well done - it is quite scary looking and a great large size. You can put it on a pole, fill it with sand, or hang it by the built-in hole on top. AND it's made in USA. I don't know if it works on every single type of bird or other critter, but so far my garden is OK. I also use fake snakes, and I move these fake predators around (or the birds may get used to them and then ignore them). Whatever you do, never use bird netting. I got a real live snake badly caught in the netting when I used it and I believe birds and other animals would get tangled up in it as well. I got rid of that horrible stuff and built fences instead around our berries, and I use this owl and fake snakes around everything else.

... Because if they can, they were sure laughing at me when I put this thing in my yard. Not only did it fail to scare any birds away, they treated it like a new friend. The owl itself is made of very lightweight plastic, and needs to be filled with something like sand to weigh it down if you aren't planning to mount it or hang it somewhere. It looks fairly realistic considering it's made with cheap plastic.

I'll give it one extra star because it makes a pretty cool garden decoration. As for being a deterrent for pests, forget it.

The seller was expedient in the delivery of this item. It was a zero hassle transaction. Ever since putting this guy on the garage over my garden we haven't had any problems with rabbits or even birds! Archimedes scares them all off!

This was a gift for my father's garden. So far it is doing it's job to keep birds out of his garden although there isn't much in it right now.
