4.0 out of 5 stars lots of slices, fast
We sell a wonderful American-made slicer at my family farm, Soons Orchards, but it does only 8 slices. This does 12, which makes a difference in chopping time for when we do applesauce, for example. (Our bakery is also using it.) I also plan to use it when we're busy in the fall for apple sampling. It's very heavy (which is good) and the raised handles are a nice touch...

1.0 out of 5 stars Left with a half-sliced apple
Based on the heft, finish, feel i expected so much of this unit. It has an easy to clean chrome finish, the blades are serrated and sharp to ease cutting, and it has a large diameter and would fit my favorite Braeburn apples! All that and 12 slices had me pretty pumped! In use the unit cut very well and the raised handles made holding it easy. The slice size is...

It is a sharp tool, of course, so keep it away from little hands.

The slice size is perfect for snacking.

Unfortunately there are low points. The bottom of the blades are not level with the base and so it does not quite cut all the way through. This left me having to find a way to make the final push-through of the apple without cutting myself. The center coring hole is maybe 3-4 mm too small in diameter for a large apple, meaning a bit of the seed pockets are left on your slices. Lastly, build quality. On about the 12th time using the corer it failed completely; the welds on nearly all the blades broke at once, and the blade assembly came clear out of the inner ring (I posted a pic above). This is unacceptable on a 3 week old tool! Too bad, for all the initial potential it was unable to live up to it.

Dalla Piazza Apple Slicer
As a category, apple corers/slicers aren't up there with air, water, and Monday Night Football, but this one is a pleasurable example of its species . With sharp slicing and coring edges (careful) and large handles with clearance to protect your knuckles from a too-enthusiastic down-stroke, the Dalla slicer is fast, and easy to clean after you extract your neat slices, The only drawback is some difficulty in slicing very large apples. It takes all my weight and some rocking action, but normal-sized apples core and divide quickly and simply with little effort. Some say it's pricey for a simple slicer (my wife, for example), but it's so well made it should last long enough to pass down to your children, and they to theirs.

This was ordered to make smaller slices from my apples in pies and cobblers, I have a small gripping problem which makes peeling and slicing with knives is painful and time onsuming, this slicer is a snap and makes the work so much faster not to mention easier. I would recommend it to anyone who needs the job done quickly, and the cuts are uniform. Really like it, and would buy it again. CCB

On arrival, this apple slicer seemed great. It has heft, it's shiny, it has lots of little teeth on the cutting edges. Unfortunately, I only got to use it once. After slicing three small apples, the wedge blades broke off the center ring. Now the whole thing lacks sufficient stability to slice a boiled egg, let alone an apple. It's a piece of garbage, I won't by anything from Dalla Piazza again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money, October 22, 2009

I was so happy with this apple slicer when it arrived. I thought that spending more money meant better QUALITY. It looked so nice. I used it about 3 times before it came totally apart. I now have 3 pieces of junk. This is the first negative review I have ever written.

Tried a couple popular brands but they were not easy to use or apple wedges too large...This item was easy to use and has the small apple segments...Blades are sharper than other models.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed-- broke into three pieces, October 4, 2010
This review is from: Dalla Piazza Apple Slicer/Corer (Kitchen)
I specifically selected this slicer because it looked like it would stand up to many years of use. It did not. I purchased this slicer nine months ago and it worked okay during that time, not as well as I would have expected. The center corer is a little too small so I had to use a knife to cut out the seeds. It also required more effort to slice through than with other slicers I have used. Well, it went from bad to worse last night when I was making an apple pie for my grandfather's birthday. I got halfway through cutting the apples when the slicer fell apart (the middle portion came out of the two halves holding it inside). I managed to get it back together, but on the next apple the welds on the middle portion failed. Totally lame. I'll stick with Oxo products in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great apples, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Dalla Piazza Apple Slicer/Corer (Kitchen)
I love this because it is so slick going through the apples and takes out the core at the same time. Makes 12 slices so perfect for apple pie or crisp without having to slice again like with an 8 slicer. However, the blades are REALLY sharp so be careful. Keep out of reach of kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality, Works Great, February 23, 2008

Did a little research and learned other slicers were prone to breaking. This one piece - all steel - model is of excellent quality and works great!
