Dalluge 16oz. Titanium . . . less than their best,

I purchased this hammer from Amazon and their response was first rate. I had several email conversations with a service rep at Dalluge and was instructed not to use punches, drifts or cat's claw with this product. Fair enough! When I received the hammer it works as advertised and relieves elbow strain considerably. I really like the side nail puller and the 1" longer handle compared to my 25 yr. old 22 oz Estwing, aids in pulling 3-1/2" ardox. However, there are some concerns. There is really excessive chamfering (try 3/16"!) on the hammer face and it is difficult to impossible, to angle the last blow and countersink nail heads. The head could benefit from less convex curvature in my opinion too. Also, the handle dried up in a few weeks and became loose sideways such that I had to insert some cardboard on the job to tighten the head on the handle. The handle is an excellent choice of edge grained hickory, set in the correct direction. Good work! When I emailed service at Dalluge (Debbie at Vaughan Manufacturing) I received no response back from her. This is not really very smart, as it demonstrates poor customer support. I did take the time and sent images of my 22oz Estwing hammer head and my 16oz Stanley hammer from the early 1970's. All in all it's a great device with these service and manufacturing caveats. Yes, I can regrind the head myself and use 24hr. epoxy on the handle; but should anyone have to on a $149 CDN hammer? Jeh ~ in Nova Scotia [...]

I love this titanium hammer. Exact design as my Douglas 20 oz. steel framer, but without the milled waffle face. Its lighter, has great balance, and hits just as hard. The Douglas is now on reserve for the rougher stuff.

Contemplated buying stiletto but very happy with this purchase. I think a wooden handle is much better than metal. I am a decking contractor so a smooth face framer Is absolute.

There are many debates on hammers. Titanium vs Steel. Wood handle vs Synthetic handle. etc. My dream hammer would be this same hammer but in 18oz titanium. Until then this will remain the reigning champ. I am sketched out by pulling nails with the side of the head having had a rough history with pulling nails with wood handles. Also the twenty dollar handle replacement is also a downer. Switched to this hammer from a 22oz estwing that started "pinging" after it wore out. If you have never had this happen with an Estwing, it's the most annoying thing in the world. Confident the Dalluge will never ping and hits harder than my 22oz with less effort. Some getting used to is in order if your accustomed to swinging a heavier hammer. But best of all its made in USA

Nice hammer. Heavier than I expected, based on experience with other Ti Hammers. Another review noted that the hammer was not compatible with the Douglas handles. I found that it fit fine. Getting the dalluge handle off was a chore. It was glued on with silicone and required prying it off. I put a 14" CXR handle on it to use as an easy carry, light framing and finishing hammer.I do agree with another post that there is an excessively large chamfer on the edge, effectively shrinking the striking surface and making it more difficult to drive nails in tight places, or use the edge of the head...

good but not great,

purchased this hammer and found it to be a good replacement for my previous hammer. I have been in construction for 30 yrs. and have used a number of hammers. Driving nails with this is very easy, light weight, good feel. However, I had to pull some nails and didn't have my cat's paw. The head of the nail was up so I used the hammer. I pulled one nail and then started on the second and the handle broke. I have had the hammer for two months and already need a replacement handle? I don't know if I can recommend this hammer.

This is most certainly the best hammer I"ve ever purchased. I've owned many different brands of hammers, but always favoured one with a wooden handle. Until this purchase my favourite was a Douglas hammer, which is of the same design. Now I have a new favourite.
