5.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack!, September 28, 2005

This review is from: Daltry Calhoun (Audio CD)
I really love the assortment of music on this soundtrack. From classic country/rockabilly (Johnny Cash & Lee Hazlewood) rock (Marmalade, 10cc, Kim Wilde, Frankie Valley & The Four Seasons) brand new music (Holly Williams, Blue Mother Tupelo, Kelly Hogan, Nora O'Connor) even a little hip hop (Wu Tang Clan) there's something on here for most tastes in music. The songs really come together beautifully. I've played this CD several times since picking it up last weekend. Obviously I love it. My favorite songs on this CD are the great classic Marmalade song Reflections Of My Life the charming Why Do I Love You? by Holly Williams (Hank Williams' granddaughter) and I really love both versions of Put Your Head On My Shoulder that Blue Mother Tupelo does (the fourteenth track is simply goosebump gorgeous! Make sure to let the CD roll to hear Blue Mother Tupelo's funky version of Put Your Head On My Shoulder which is a hidden track. The blending of fresh new songs with some older, familiar songs is very nice! I haven't seen the movie yet but if this soundtrack is any indication, the movie should be excellent! 5 STARS!

4.0 out of 5 stars best soundtrack this year so far 4+ stars, October 4, 2005

I rate this soundtrack a solid four+ stars because of its rich, eclectic combination of songs. Some wonderful golden oldies on here like Johnny Cash's version of Oh Lonesome Me and the timeless The End Of The World by Skeeter Davis. Je T'aime Moi Non Plus by Serge Gainsbourg/Jane Birkin is steamy sensual. Reflections Of My Life by Marmalade is one of the most touching songs from the 60's psychedelic era. It's amazing how music brings back times, places and events in one's mind. This soundtrack does that with a few great older songs that I had forgotten up until now like 10cc's The Things We Do For Love and Kids In America from Kim Wilde but the new songs on this collection really make this soundtrack stand out. For example Holly Williams absolutely sings her heart out on Why Do I Love You. And Kelly Hogan's ballad about breaking up called No Bobby Don't is simply breath taking. Then there is the sultry sound of Blue Mother Tupelo's Put Your Head On My Shoulder. Micol Davis turns her soul inside out on this one. June's Mash Up blends classic Marty Robbins country-western music with the hip-hop of Wu Tang Clan and it works out just nicely. The Calhoun Seed And Sod Commercial hidden track is the only track that does nothing for me. But the second hidden track is an awe inspiring interpretation of Put Your Head On My Shoulder by Blue Mother Tupelo. This time, an upbeat back porch version, great gospelesque vocal interplay between Micol and Ricky Davis. Ricky's wailing bottleneck guitar brings Delta warmth to this, my favorite track. Daltry Calhoun is very enjoyable. The best movie soundtrack that I've heard this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Please be cautious, February 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Daltry Calhoun (Audio CD)
This is just a warning to buyers, sellers and Amazon--there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the 'DALTRY CALHOUN ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK'
I have ordered this CD from sellers and they send me the 'ORIGINAL SCORE' and those who are in the know-know this is a huge mistake-they are 2 SEPARATE CD's. So to anyone who is interested in buying this CD please contact the seller to make sure you are getting EXACTLY what you want. Amazon needs to police this much better, sellers need to be VERY clear which CD they are selling and buyers need to BEWARE.
