Peeno is a physician and a renowned critic of the way US health maintenance organizations boost profits by depriving patients of care. She has provided evidence for American patients suing HMOs; testified to the US congress; and spoken to the Romanow Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada.
Having had my own personal horror of the HMO system. This movie cuts right to my heart. A doctor inform with a heart transplant he was sure he could have saved my mom's life. Her HMO, refused to approved the claim...6 mths later she died.
And it saddened me for some to call it a chick flick. To look down on Peeno stating it took her long enought to come forward....but,the bottom line is.... she did... how many others have had the courage to do so? I salute you, your voice and your movie Dr.Linda Peeno.

If you want to know why we think our health insurance companies don't have the right to tell us what medicine we can or cannot take and why some do not get the surgeries they need covered. This is a movie for you. A real eye opener and lots to talk about after seeing this movie.

Dr. Linda Peeno, a Medical reviewer, used to work in two insurance companies that totally exploited the insurance requests they received from hospitals by denying payment for patients with expensive procedures. Linda could not bear the unethical actions and decisions taken by these companies, quits working for them and decides to start a campaign to unveil their dirty work.

This movie reminded me of the documentary "Sicko", that also unveiled the dirty work of many insurance companies. I can't imagine that a company would deny payment for someone that needs a life or death procedure, just to save money! But there are certainly lots of greedy people with decision manking power out there.

Excellent film, that is actually based on a true story.

This is an important docudrama that depicts the struggles of Linda Pino, MD with the managed care system. In medical school, managed care was not the terrible influence it is now. I didn't know Dr. Linda Pino, but her husband was my resident during my rotation on OB/Gyn at the University of Louisville. The problems seen in the movie are real and even greater today. I wish EVERYONE could see this movie. As a physician in private practice, managed care makes taking care of my patients more than a little difficult. Moreover, most all of my patients have seen increases in deductibles, copays, and premiums while at the same time experiencing greater difficulty in obtaining the medical care that they deserve, require, and believe they had paid for. This movie easy deserves MY ABSOLUTE HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!!

I like this movie because it depicts human nature as well as corporate greed vs. healthcare. This movie came out before Sicko, and is about a real life woman whom was faced with moral & ethical dilemmas all while trying to balance her families financial well being as well as being a responsible mom to her kids. This movie shows the grey areas of how choosing to do the right thing isn't quite as simple as some think it is, while also showing how to start doing the right thing in order to be a better role model for others. In turn seeing the consequences of how doing the right thing can also have negative repercussions.
