Dame Janet E. Husband, OBE, FMedSci, FRCP, FRCR, is Emeritus Professor of Radiology, Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London and Surrey, UK.
Professor Husband led pioneering clinical research both in CT and MRI in cancer care and has published over 300 scientific papers and books, and lectured extensively throughout the world. She was President of the British Institute of Radiology from 2003-2004, and of the Royal College of Radiologists from 2004-2007 and together with Professor Reznek she founded the International Cancer Imaging Society.
She has been received numerous awards including Honorary Membership of the Royal Belgian Radiological Society in 1994, the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology in 1999 and the Radiological Society of North America in 2005. She was awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Faculty of Radiologists of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2005, the Hong Kong College of Radiologists in 2007, the Academy of Medicine of Singapore in 2007 and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2008. She received the Gold Medal of European Association and Congress of Radiology in 2006 and of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2009.
In 2002 Dame Janet was appointed OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours in recognition of her contribution to cancer imaging, and in 2007 she was appointed Dame Commander of the most Excellent Order of the British Empire in recognition of services to medicine.
