Book Description

As featured in USA Today in March 2012.

War of Gods, Book I. Revised October 2011. Inspired by Slavic mythology, Damian’s Oracle is the entree into the ongoing battle between good and evil over the fate of humanity. The White God, Damian, and his Guardians protect the world from the Black God and his monsters while rescuing Naturals – humans with extraordinary paranormal gifts – from the Black God, who would kill or convert them.

Caught in the middle is cool-headed Sofia, a Natural whose gift will tip the scales in the war. Sofia begins her transformation from human into oracle, the first in thousands of years. Damian rescues her from the Black God in time to complete a ceremony that will bind her to him for eternity. Sofia struggles with her new world and her role as an oracle and Damian’s mate while haunted by a mysterious man from Damian’s past who’s supposed to be dead. Unbeknownst to her, her link to the dead man may be all that saves Damian, his Guardians, and the fate of humanity.

While he wants nothing more than for the petite beauty to take her place at his side like the oracles of legend did his White God forefathers, Damian can’t quite rationalize having to win her over instead of command her. Further complicating his life is the sobering realization that there are spies in his organization who are helping the Black God take out his Guardians. Damian must help Sofia reach her potential fast, especially when a threat from his past returns.

Includes exclusive excerpt from "Damian's Assassin," Book II in the War of Gods series.

Editorial review:
Excerpt from review in USA Today, March 30, 2012:
"Damian's Oracle, the first novel in a series of four, effectively balances paranormal action with old-fashioned romance. While Sofia's emotional development and evolving supernatural powers seemed rushed at times, the cast of characters is entertaining and vivid, the story is engrossing, and the love shared between Damian and Sofia is authentic and timeless, an organic and precious factor in this supernatural saga. Damian's Oracle is a paranormal romance that is sure to entertain and thrill."

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent June 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I do a lot of romance novel reading, and 99% of them are Kindle freebies. I was absolutely shocked that this book was free. The characters were well developed and likable, the plot was refreshingly interesting, and the romance was whirlwind. I usually like my books steamy, but this had almost no graphic sex scenes and I still loved it. Will definitely be buying the other books in this series as they come out.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not terrible, but still pretty bad July 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
After reading a synopsis and a few reviews of Damian's Oracle by Lizzy Ford, I decided it might be worth my time to give it a try. The story seemed relatively interesting: A white god and a black god who are relegated to life on earth are embroiled in the typical battle of good vs. evil. When a woman, Sophia, begins to exhibit signs of transformation into an oracle, both gods want her for his own. Whoever has the oracle gains a significant advantage in the war.

The story isn't your typical good vs. evil tale, which is why I was drawn to it in the first place. I liked the idea of a humanized god, one who lived among humans and was subject to their vast array of emotions.

The book actually started strong for me. It was an easy read, but it was well-written and I liked the few characters that were introduced and was anticipating how they would develop. Things quickly went downhill, however, as the book progressed. What seemed like an interesting plot morphed into a convoluted mess. The quality of writing quickly declined as well. It seemed to me the author opted for gratuitous profanity in place of strong dialogue and even had her characters calling each other "BFF." Perhaps that isn't a sin in anyone else's eyes, but it turned me off right away.

The overall plot is one that I do think has potential, but it was lost in the mess the author made of the story and the characters. I would have happily read twice as many pages if it meant there'd be some back story to fill in the plot holes she left and better developed characters. What we were given was simply insufficient and it hurt the book immensely. It's never a good sign when characters are being killed off and you just don't care, because you were never given a reason to.

I think the author has potential, but needs to work on story and character development. The entire book seemed rushed, like she was desperate to get it finished and didn't really care about polishing the final product. While I don't recommend this particular book for the reasons I've already stated, Lizzy Ford is definitely someone to keep an eye on. If she improves in a few key areas, she could actually produce a novel worth reading.

Strong characters and interesting plot. For all fans of originality and paranormal romance. Also, make sure you read book #2 in the series, Damian's Assassin. Both are very much worth reading- a few times! It picks up pretty much right where the first book ended. Excellent stories!
