5.0 out of 5 stars Damn Good Book, March 15, 2006
This review is from: Damn Yankees (Paperback)
"Damn Yankees" is a damn good baseball story that you won't soon forget. Douglass Wallop did a great job of creating a readable, enduring story that you won't put down until you've finished reading the very last page. Although the theme is an old one, a bargain with the devil, Wallop made his story a baseball story dedicated to beating the hated New York Yankees. Joe Boyd, who is transformed into hard-hitting Joe Hardy of the 1958 Washington Senators, has made a deal with the devil named Applegate and now has a second thought. Can he possibly get out of the deal? Applegate and a beautiful woman named Lola are there to make sure he doesn't, but... You'll have to read it to find out for yourself. I'll tell you this, you won't be sorry. It's a great story, well-told by Wallop. Probably better than the hit musical. Anyway, a homerun in any ball park. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the Back Cover:, October 7, 2005
This review is from: Damn Yankees (Paperback)
Decades before Field Of Dreams there was Damn Yankees - Douglas Wallop's classic baseball fable in which die-hard Washington Senators fan Joe Boyd puts his soul in hock to help them wrest the pennant away from the hated, all-conquering Yankees. Transformed by the sulfurous Mr. Applegate's satanic magig into 22-year-old baseball phemon Joe Hardy, he leads the once-hapless Senators in a torrid late-season pursuit of the men in pinstripes. Joe has until September 21st before the deal becomes final - and eternal - and with the luscious temptress Lola to distract him, he'll have a hell of a time wriggling out of the bargin........
