I put a canister of DampRid in one of the rooms in my house and slowly, but surely, it collected moisture and some mold & mildrew from the air. After seeing that the DampRid worked, I went out and bought 2 refills & 4 more 10.5 oz Damprid containers to put all around the house. When I refilled the canister with the refill crytals, the DampRid QUICKLY collected pink, brown, and black mildew/mold (different color molds depending on the location of the DampRid)... It worked so well and so quickly that it was frightning (mostly because I could see what I had been breathing in and it was quite gross). **I guess the different shape of the refill crystals (which are more like pebbles/pellets) increases the surface area, making it much more efficient than the flat crystals this DampRid container comes with.

I live in Florida where it is very humid and I suppose that could contribute to the DampRid working so quickly, but it works and that is all that matters (the product does what it claims to do).

*Side Note: over time, molds/mildew & icicle-type formations form on the inside of the container. The hard formations are almost impossible to remove and take up much of the space where the liquid collected from the air is supposed to go. So, when you see these formations & have little room for liquid in the canister, it is time to splurge on new DampRid containers.

I would recommend this product to people looking for a simple & cheap way to clean the air in their houses quietly & effectively. Though I recommend the refills much more than this DampRid formula, you need the container that this formula comes with to put the refills in... and this formula DOES work--so I rated this 5 stars so that the effectiveness of the product be known.

I was told about this product a year ago and deided to try it. I put one in my bedroom window and one in my living room window, to see what happend. Now I live in the Seattle area and everyone knows that it rains here so my windows get pretty damp with condensation, so in turn they get pretty moldy. I am allergic to mold so anything that will help eliminate mold I am up to try. Within two weeks the bottom of the container was full, and the white crystals were gone. I had cleaned the mold off the windows when I put the Damp Rid in the window, and to my surprise there was no new mold. I kept using it and refilling it and to my surprise the other "unpretected" windows were molding, but my damp rid windows were still nice and clean! I was thrilled!!! I now have Damp Rid in every window in my house and I have not had a mold problem since! This is great stuff and I reccomend it to anyone that wants to keep their windows mold free!

I have used both Damp RID and Damp CHECK for the past five years. I put it in all of my closets, my bathroom and bedroom. Damp RID is "ok," but I greatly prefer Damp CHECK.

Damp RID's pellets are flakier and don't last as long as Damp CHECK.

The packaging isn't as good either. Damp RID's holes in the inner basket are smaller and harder to clean and don't hold up as well for refills. Damp CHECK's inner basket is very easy to clean and is durable. I have had my containers for five years now and keep refilling them. It's much cheaper to just purchase refills. My Damp RID containers only last me one or two uses.

Damp RID is designed for use without a lid so kids, animals, etc. can come in contact with the active ingredient. The Damp CHECK comes with a special "webbed" lid that keeps the product out of contact.

Damp CHECK is harder to find, but well worth it. I buy it direct and get free shipping. They have a great variety of products, including for your car.

The only exception to this is that Damp RID sells a closet hanger version that Damp CHECK doesn't have. This is the only Damp RID product I buy. I use Damp CHECK for the rest of my home, storage and auto.
