5.0 out of 5 stars Good Product!
Have been using this about a year and it does what they say. It's easy to use. Just put the refill pack in the container. When the bottom is full of water and refill pack is empty and brown, dispose of the water and toss out refill pack and put in a new pack. Easy and it does the job.

OK, it does remove moisture from the air, but not so you'd notice in a room of any size. Removing a 1/8 cup of water a day really doesn't make any difference during Arizona's monsoon season. I'm not going to lie -- I only purchased this product b/c the reviews seemed to be so good and it was as inexpensive as it was.
Much to my delight, it works WONDERFULLY. Think I'll be buying others for my basement & closets.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really works!!!!!, July 7, 2010

We use DampRid in our master bathroom, which doesn't have an exhaust fan. The room feels less damp after showering, and the steam dries off the mirrors much faster than it did before. This totally works as described and makes a definite difference.

OK, it does remove moisture from the air, but not so you'd notice in a room of any size. Removing a 1/8 cup of water a day really doesn't make any difference during Arizona's monsoon season. However the main problem was; after successfully using 2 bags of absorbent we forgot to check the water level on the third bag. Apparently the water touched the bag which turned the water into a solid and spread a gelatinous mess all over the top of the wooden dresser it was placed on. This goo was hard to remove and would have no doubt damaged the surface if it wasn't removed quickly.

1.0 out of 5 stars Leaks all over the floor, July 26, 2011

This review is from: DampRid FG91 Any Room E-Z Fill Absorbing System with Pouch (Tools & Home Improvement)
I used DampRid for years to reduce the humidity in my apartment by the ocean, and I recommend it, but not with this dispenser. I bought two of these, and after the first use, I emptied the reservoirs and put new packets in the top. The second time around the liquid leaked out the air vents in the top and made a puddle on the floor. Ew.

I replaced them with standard DampRid bucket-type dispensers (DampRid FG60 Refillable Moisture Absorber, 2-Pack). They're not as designy looking, but they work. Don't use these.

1.0 out of 5 stars Leaked everywhere!!! Useless product!, January 7, 2011

This review is from: DampRid FG91 Any Room E-Z Fill Absorbing System with Pouch (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this product after having bought the Damp Rid closet hangers. I have used them multiple times before and loved them. I was looking for something to take care of removing humidity from my entire closet(especially my shoe collection)that would, over time, prove cheaper than the closet hangers (I needed to use 2 at a time, and replace them every week; I live in a tropic climate with much humidity, and this tends to cause musty odors and mold growth on my clothes and shoes).

How wrong I was in choosing this product! After putting it in my closet, I monitored it over a couple of weeks and noticed that very little water was collecting in the bottom basin, so I picked it straight up (gently) to check it, and it spilled ALL OVER MY CLOSET! Not only that, but while cleaning up the mess, I found that the chemicals used in this product are HIGHLY IRRITANT to skin, and in a matter of seconds created a horrible rash on my legs where it splashed and intense itching and burning on my hands as I wiped it up. These chemicals were also unusually difficult to remove using commom soap and water.

A few damaged shoes and rashes later, I would NOT recommend this product to ANYONE. I am requesting a refund on my purchase.

To anyone looking into this product, I recommend getting an actual dehumidifier or the Damp Rid closet hangers, which would greatly outperform this failure.

1.0 out of 5 stars Makes a Blooming Bloody Mess!, September 12, 2010

Rife with design flaws. Fixes one problem, makes five others. The drain hole in the upper vented chamber - the compartment for the packet of chemicals - is supposed to permit captured moisture to drain into the bottom reservoir. But the hole clogs with a gelatinous greasy substance that's formed when water vapor touches the chemical packet. It insidiously collects and overflows. Unaware of the clog and collected goo in the top the first time I picked up a DampRid container to move it (it's hard to see inside), the goo spilled through the vents, splashing on books and shelves, running down the front of the bookcase, and seeping into the carpet. Cleaning up the gooey, greasy globules and clumps is only slightly less difficult than cleaning up drops of mercury. They nearly refuse to be absorbed by paper towel and divide and spread their greasiness the more they are touched. I can't imagine the goo that collects in the bottom can be safely poured into pipes and sewer systems, as instructed, without repercussions, so I poured it into containers and put them in the trash. And I set the DampRid devices into deep, plastic, rectangular containers to catch spills. But soon, sticky sediment collected on the bottom so that the reservoir held less and less and required more and more emptying. Eventually the thick goo crystalized and could not be pried out of the drain, rendering the contraptions useless. I got these in June and am discarding them in September despite having several unused refill packets.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very messy, August 17, 2011
This review is from: DampRid FG91 Any Room E-Z Fill Absorbing System with Pouch (Tools & Home Improvement)
Okay, I don't know if I did something wrong, but this item was awful. I put it in my bathroom which gets very damp because there is no ventilation fan. After the first couple of days I noticed a tiny skimming of water on the bottom of the collection area. I thought there would be a lot more with 4 people showering in that bathroom. The next time I went to check on it, just by picking it up, gooey, greasy, slime started coming out the vents of the top portion of the unit and it made a real mess all over my bathroom floor. When I finally got the unit opened up, I could see that this gelatinous material had stopped up the holes that allow the liquid to drain into the bottom collection area, so everything was backed up on top where it was free to spill out the vents. What a mess! Unfortunately, I had to toss this contraption in the garbage, which felt like such a waste. Maybe I will try the bucket system and see if that is any better.

This is the item that my husband originally got at Lowe's. But they did not have the refills for it, which is why I ordered it on Amazon. This really works and has taken care of the dampness problems we have been having.

We got this about 3 or 4 months ago to put in our master bedroom walk-in closet (next to a bathroom) and now it's almost full of water. I would never have thought that there would be that much moisture in a walk-in closet - and we keep the door closed all the time too (and live in a place that's dry in the summer months). So I'm glad we got this. We used the original absorbing pouch that came with the package but I guess we'll have to get a refill pack soon. This device is very easy to use.
