Excellent read,
By Leanna (Phoenix) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Damsel in Green (Paperback)
This is another of the "best" of Betty Neels' books. Although an English nurse and a Dutch doctor are the leads of this story as in many of her books, the situation is different and interesting, and a real romance. When the doctor meets the nurse and is interested, he knows that he has five children who are his wards to raise, and she might not be willing to take on that responsibility. But the children fall in love with her, too, and she is the only one who has to be to convinced! Good character descriptions and the story flows well. An excellent read.

Could He Fairly Ask Her To Take On So Much . . .,
By Louisiana Lady (Louisiana USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Damsel in Green (Betty Neels Large Print Collection) (Hardcover)
Book Description: She'd do anything for the children's sake. . . . Georgina Rodman had been given a special nursing assignment -- she was to look after the Van den Berg Eyffert children, who were recovering from an accident. Having worked in a casualty ward, Georgina felt she could cope with just about anything life threw at her. That was until she met the children's guardian, Julius! She realized that even common sense and a practical nature couldn't stop you from falling in love . . . with a man who didn't even know you existed.
Casualty-Accident Staff Nurse Georgina Rodman had met Professor Julius van den Berg Eyffert, Senior Consultant & Anesthetics Specialist when his children were brought to her hospital after being involved in an accident. She was surprised to find that he was a bachelor and not their father but guardian. The Professor arranged to have her "on loan" to help with the children during their convalescence. Initially she felt Julius did not like her but tolerated her for the children's sake. He was Dutch/British with family homes in both countries; she enjoyed spending time with the family at Dalmer's Place in Essex and Bergenstijn near Utrecht. She felt Julius was quiet; kind, giving, and self-sacrificing with the children; but indifferent to her. Georgina found herself wishing she could be with them, and especially Julius, permanently. How could she fall in love with someone who barely knew she existed? Perhaps, she was wrong. Perhaps, what she interpreted as lack of interest may have been something else altogether. A nice, somewhat different, Neels story. Paul & Maggie van Biejen Doelsma from "A Match for Sister Maggy" appear; they are friends of Julius. Julius & Georgina are mentioned in "A Small Slice of Summer" Julius & Jason are friends; Georgina and Latita's elder sister Margo are best friends.

A nurse called George!,
By D.R. Grady (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Damsel in Green (The Best of Betty Neels) (Mass Market Paperback)
A nurse called George who takes on a nursing job with a doctor who is caring for his five young relatives. A car accident leaves the youngest boy in need of nursing care, and Julius hires Georgina for that job so she can see what his life is like. A man with two homes - one in England and the other in Holland and five cousins who live with him after the death of their parents. This is another beautifully told story by Betty Neels. It's warm and well told, with plenty of nursing details and delicious food descriptions. Not to mention George's cunning at keeping the youngest member in bed (with broken legs) and entertained. You'll want to be friends with George and fall in love with Julius. This is a story not to be missed! |
