5.0 out of 5 stars Southern Fried Goodness, September 2, 2008
By John Carroll (Alpharetta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"I'm in love with this road, I'm in love with this car, I'm love with this radio station playin me some CCR". Damn, I'm love with this song(Two for Tuesday)- track 3 on Bairds new record. There's no effort to do anything modern or fashionable here. This is Bairds' crackly voice/guitar, Warner Hodges(Jason & The Scorchers) beautifully rude guitar, Mauro Magellan(Ga Satellites) steady drumming, and Keith Christopher(Yahoos) in the pocket bass playing laying down bar room rock and roll. Basically, the same kind of stuff that Baird's has been doing for the last 25 years. I like the fact that it sounds like a band recording in a room at the same time. It doesn't sound like the usual pro tools special. You've also got a variety of moods- the melancholy sound of Crooked Smile and Lazy Monday would of fit in on Salvation and Sin. Runnin, Outta Time(listen to the lyrics on this one) with it's B3 touches in the background sounds almost gospel like. Well Enough Alone, with it's snaky guitar riff, sounds like something off the second GA Satellites record. Hellizapoppin is the best song that Jerry Lee Lewis never wrote. Keep on bangin on that old Telecaster Dan Baird- it's a glorious racket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart and smart-as* rock n roll, July 4, 2008
By Thomas A. Gannon "tomgmoney" (bklyn, ny United States) - See all my reviews

When I heard that Warner Hodges had joined forces with Dan Baird & the Homemade Sin I was extremely excited about hearing the results. I'm a big time fan of the Georgia Satellites from way back and always loved Warner's guitar playing w/ Jason & the Scorchers.
What I did not know was how great these songs would be. This CD continues to grow on me and I listen to it pretty much every day. The first three songs jump right out at you, particularly the opener "Damn Thing to be Done" and I can honestly say I dig all of the tracks. Other faves are "She Dug Me Up",a rocking and hilarious song sung by bassist Keith Christopher; "Two For Tuesday" a tribute to driving and listening to CCR on the radio; and "Hellzapopin'" which ends the album on a fitting raucous note. If you like the Geo Sat's or Dan Baird great first solo album you will dig this too! Pick it up.

3.0 out of 5 stars It may be only rock 'n' roll, but it sure is hard to beat, August 2, 2008
By Greg Reilly (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Ex-Georgia Satellite Dan Baird is a busy man these days. When he's not producing records, he's putting out his own, either with his long-time rock 'n' roll conspirators, Terry Anderson, Eric Ambel and Keith Christopher, in the Yahoos, or solo. Only months after fans got their hands on a ripper straight-ahead, double live CD, Fresh Out of Georgia Like a Satellite (four stars), and DVD of the same name, Baird has released this full-length album of original material, with his new backing band, Homemade Sin.
He doesn't set out to reinvent the wheel. He is a rocker of the ramshackle Faces-Stones kind, with a good measure of Chuck Berry and Molly Hatchet thrown in. He covers the usual rock topics of gals, love gone wrong, recriminations and, of course, excess, but what elevates him above the pack are his song lyrics _sometimes funny, sometimes tragic, but always smart. Baird keeps good company, too, with songsmith Tommy Womack co-writing a number of the new album's tracks. A fair effort, but Dan's done better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dan's return to form - thank goodness, I missed him!
In the late 80's, I was a HUGE Georgia Satellites fan. They were easily, the greatest bar band on EARTH. Then Dan went solo, and his first solo album was great. Read more
