Biography

Dan Fogelberg was a US-born singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose music took on many diverse influences, from classical to bluegrass, over his 25 year career.

Fogelberg started singing and song writing when he was young teenager and joined a band while he was still at school. When he went to college in Champaign to study drama, he started playing at a club in town where he was spotted… Read more in Amazon's Dan Fogelberg Store

Editorial Reviews

Review

Personnel: Dan Fogelberg (acoustic & electric guitars, keyboards, vocals); Robert McEntee (acoustic, electric & electric slide guitars, keyboards); Tim Weisberg (flute); Louis Cortelezzi (saxophone, flute, woodwinds, keyboards, percussion); Vince Melamed (keyboards, vocals); Jim Photoglo (bass, vocals); Michael Botts (drums, percussion). Recorded live at the Fox Theater in St. Louis on June 25, 1991. Four years had passed since a Dan Fogelberg album had come out, and rather than attempt to produce a studio album that would fit in with the times, Fogelberg released an excellent live album, Greetings from the West. Fogelberg has the ability to put on a great show, although some of the tour dates and nights don't quite live up to par for unexplained reasons. Fortunately, this two-CD set is excellent and includes a wide sweep of the music of his career. Although the backing band hardly includes household names, the musicianship is top-notch. Hearing all of these songs together in one sitting is to be reminded of just how good a songwriter Fogelberg is. The connection between him and his audience is genuine, and the emotional intensity is occasionally quite moving. The set also frequently brings forth more of Fogelberg's rock side and shows him to be an adept and energetic artist whose music should not be confined to the soft rock bins. A definite rebirth and a fine live outing. ~ Steve Matteo --Muze

Product Description

In 1991, after an incredible two decade run of amazing albums and songs, Dan Fogelberg released his only live recording for Epic. Tales From The West includes all of his most loved tracks like PART OF THE PLAN, THE POWER OF GOLD, MISSING YOU, RUN FOR THE ROSES, SAME OLD LANG SYNE, plus seventeen more classic Fogelberg signature tunes. This wonderful concert recording also features his good friend Tim Weissberg on several tracks.Out of print for awhile, Friday Music is proud to include this great cd as another chapter in our much acclaimed Dan Fogelberg Remaster Series.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best live recordings of all time., July 11, 1998

Live music is hard to recreate on a plastic disc but this album is as close to being at a show as it can get. the extended version of "The Power Of Gold" shows the Dan Fogelberg can rock with the best and on "Old Tennessee" he proves that a man and Martin can speak volumes with just 6 strings and great lyrics.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem Among Live Albums, January 20, 2000
Listening to this album "over & over" again (to use one of its track titles) still makes me sad that Dan never supported his European sales with the odd tour over here. Having been a Fogelberg Fan since 1977, I was thrilled by this release in 1991. It captures Dan Fogelberg doing what he does best, enchanting the audience with his musicality and his emotions. This is a brilliant live album that will never sound "dated", and I also highly recommend the excellent video version of this (again, sadly only available in the US format which will not play on standard European VCR's).

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been a Fogelberg Fan since the mid '70's and his work still does something for me. This live albun covers an evening that held me enchanted and enthralled as I listened to all the old favorites (and some new favorites!) with a fresh twist. This is his second best album next to "The Innocent Age"
