You Can't Keep a Good Dan Down,

This review is from: Dan Sartain Lives (MP3 Download)
After roughly 5 years, Dan Sartain surfaces with some new, some old, and some different influences for his latest record, "Lives". A fantastic record in it's own right, it stands to show the stamina of the artist, but does sometimes fail to nail the lo-fi angst that roughed up "Dan Sartain vs the Serpientes" and "Join Dan Sartain". In place of this on "Lives", comes a variety of different styles, and a musical maturity that neatly ties the package together. Despite this, all of the tracks shine with their own vigor and newness, and, if you don't mind Dan trying something a little different, then you're in for a good time. From the paranoia of "Those Thoughts" to the continuation of the Cobra saga with "Walk Among the Cobras IV", and the subtle humor of "Atheist Funeral", or even the up-tempo "Bohemian Grove" - the album has hooks aplenty, and should be snagging people for months, hopefully years, to come.

Worth the wait,

Ahh, Dan Sartain.I have been a fan since the homemade recordings, and I'm hooked. After waiting for what seemed like forever for a new studio album, I found myself staying up until midnight on May 30th, just so I could download this album. Dan Sartain has a certain sound about him. You won't forget it if you "get it", and this album is well worth the wait. There is not a single track on this ablum that feels like "filler", at all. There really aren't many albums out there that I actually can say that about. When the radio sucks, and all is lost, go for it and just buy this album. You won't regret it. My only complaint (which everyone around me is tired of hearing, I'm sure), is that he doesn't tour the United States that often. He is now touring with Social Distortion, so if you're lucky enough to still have tickets available in your area, you should buy one and go check him out live.

This is a fantastic album, the apex of quality modern garage rock. It's very European feeling, yet an American production from beginning to end. If you're already a fan of Dan's this will be a great addition to your collection, and if you've never heard him before it's a great introduction. Also, to get an autographed copy of this album go to Ebay, they are selling one right now for $35 and one for $40. Great piece of southern rock n roll memorabilia.

Rockabilly is a special kind of niche. It takes a unique DNA sequence to pull it off right. By those standards, Dan Sartain is a perfect genetic specimen. He is so effecient at his craft, genius is an understatement. Lives is an embodiment of all things holy in Rockabilly. The sound is not so Lo-Fi, but still has that raw, classic signature of Sartain all over it. It was a long stretch between albums, I hope we don't have to wait so long for the next one. If thats how long it takes to refine the Rockabilly jewel, then so be it, its worth it.
