Editorial Reviews

"Rizzoli has to be one of my favorite art publishers to date. They always release monographs on the best artists of our generation." ~BeautifulDecay.com

"...for Schutz fans, this book is pure mind-bending eye candy." ~TheArtBlog.org

"She has a kind of painterly telepathy, a quality that allows her to delve into Ensor’s crowds and dissect Eakins’s corpses. It doesn’t hurt, either, that she’s a once-in-a-generation coloris." ~ArtInfo.com

"Don’t let all the bright colors fool you; Schutz is drawn toward the macabre." ~FlavorPill.com

Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Dana Schutz is a young painter, but from this monograph, she proves to be quite creative and prolific. This book is a substantial size, and the images inside do not disappoint. Reproductions are vibrant and saturated with color, much like Schutz's paintings. Every page is a delight. The paintings are presented chronologically, and you can see Schutz work through themes and create narratives around a cast of macabre characters that exist in a neon world, where cannibals must eat themselves in order to survive, and old men playing chess live between being people and black window blinds. It's a great buy, and really shows how creative and wild the imagination can be still in painting, in a contemporary way. A must have.
