About the Author

"Obsessive" or "driven" don't even begin to do her justice... Joanne wrote her first three books in 99 days, then went on with the labourious task of editing to make the story internally consistent. To keep herself sane during this process, she wrote another two books - the first one of which is Danann Frost Falls from Grace. Joanne firmly believes that having a Knight in Shining Armour ride in on the Deus Ex Machina at the last moment is no way to tell a story; she also believes that everyone should get what they deserve - good, bad or otherwise. Joanne has two children, a loving husband and a laptop with the letters worn off the keys.

This book is my new all time favorite. I want everyone to understand that I am not a pushover when it comes to my reviews. VERY rarely will I ever give a book a 5 cup rating. There have only been a few books throughout my life that I would give that rating to, and I am so excited to say that THIS BOOK IS ONE OF THEM!

Joanne creates a story that pulls you in from the very first page! The world building is fantastic and Joanne doesn't leave the reader wondering about anything. She covers every aspect with great detail, to the point where you can literally see the world she's describing.

Seth and Danann, the main characters, are absolutely perfect! Not perfect in the true sense of the word, but perfectly 'real'. It was extremely easy to relate to both of them, and I instantly fell in love! Their romance is beautiful, complicated, and far reaching, which makes this an extremely touching read. The emotions are raw and real, and I'm not ashamed to say that at certain points in the book, I was wishing I could reach out and smack both of them! Along with the supporting characters, who never overshadow the main characters, Seth and Danann embark on a journey full of love, trouble, and an emotional roller coaster.

I honestly tried to think of something that could be improved in this book. I like to give my readers both sides of the story by including any faults, but I couldn't find anything wrong with this one! I recommend this book to anyone 18 or older, and at the price of $2.99 for the ebook, you owe it to yourself to give it a try! You can read a teaser of the book on Joanne's website if you want to try it before you buy it, but I assure you... you will love this book!

Truth is, Danann Frost is not a dud. It's a good book that begins in Ireland and moves to Australia with various references to Danann having lived in other parts of the world. This story is really about Danann's journey, about an Angel choosing whether or not to live in a world of darkness. My personal views of dark and light have always been simple, evil is as evil does, it isn't dark or light. I think Joanne really tackles that issue in this book. The vampires actually act older and wiser than most in recent YA novels I have read. They are also filled with a sort of sense of the actual history of the Earth, which is another nice thing about them. Having a character that's a vampire that's thousands of years old not be able to reach back into their memory is sort of sad. Thankfully Seth can.

There are a few things that I think make a book great and so I need to structure my review so that I can tackle all of those things.

Writing: First of all, Joanne begins in third person and the prose is beautiful, thanks Joanne for helping me find some more words to expand my vocabulary, they will help a lot in the future! The writing was very well laid out, but then without a part 2 or any kind of break, it switches to first person and the story is then taken from Danann's point of view. I would have personally handled this differently. I may have done the entire story from Seth's point of view or I would have created a "Book 1" "Book 2" kind of feel to it just to let the readers know there's more of a break. I was thrown when I got into the first person and then I eased into it and continued reading because really, I liked the plot.

There can't be many people who can think up a story about an Angel - a creature of the Light being tutored by Archangel Gabriel no less - and a Dark One (read: Vampire) falling in passionate love. Ms Valiukas must have a fertile imagination, that's all I can say about this wonderful idea for a plot.

She is an artist when it comes to describing and our first sight of Danann, the Angel, is "...the young woman unfurled the most beautiful, feathery white wings." Seth, the Dark One, is spellbound by her and calls her his Goddess, which is fair enough since every time they touch they're showered in golden sparkles. But this can be no ordinary romance because the pair are poles apart - and more. When the Seraphim discover what's happened, her punishment for falling in love with a Dark One is banishment and Danann, that fragile, ethereal creature, "falls from grace", exiled to a life of cruelty.

This is a story of pure fantasy but delight. Who'd have thought that Archangel Uriel would turn out to be hateful? And the reader constantly asks how Danaan can possible survive for hundreds of years living on the edge of humanity with a group of vampires. Misunderstandings have lead to Seth and Danaan's separation and Seth is now out for revenge.

As the story develops, and Danaan tries to regain the Light, it becomes inhabited by an assortment of juicy characters who are either bent on her well-being or on her destruction. It's action-packed with a very surprising, unpredictable, ending. I recommend and congratulation Ms Valiukas on her fabulous imagination and ability to make it real. I understand there's going to be a sequel to look forward to.
