5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Breed
After purchasing a Nostalgia kegerator, which was a total piece of crap, I purchased this better model on the advice of a friend. We were immediately happy when we opened the packaging and found that this model came with a 5 lb. CO2 tank. This is hard to find with these $500-$600 models. This Danby was easy to set up and I love the digital temperature gauge on the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not work correctly out of box, April 29, 2007
Out of the box, this unit will not function correctly. You will have serious problems with foaming beer because of 3 defects.

1. Temperature regulator does not sense liquid temperature. It is also located too close to the cooling plate and needs to be moved further away to get a more accurate reading.

2. The tower does not flow cool air and ambient temperature inside is much higher than it needs to be

3. The spigot is also non-conventional and doesnt encourage an even flow

As far as I know, mine doesnt make any noises at all so I'm not sure what the other review is referring to or if they have a unit that isnt working correctly.

All of the above problems can be corrected.

Temperature -

a) Purchase a new regulator and bypass danby's.

b) Move the sensor away from its current position and put it in water to get a more accurate "liquid" reading.

Tower - Install a small fan to circulate air into the tower

Spigot - Replace with a standard one

Unfortunately for Amazon reviews, i cant link to other information that will help you do all of this, but if you search for the name of the unit, links that will help, show up very high in the list.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Loud and Bad Service, May 24, 2005
I bought this product at Home Depot and from the beginning it was extremely loud. The rest of the unit wasn't too bad it was a nice looking fridge. After only about 2 weeks I noticed that the temperature would vary between 32 and 45 (I had the setting set for 34) and the unit would not start cooling until it hit 45. After a few more days the unit failed to cool at all. That's where the fun began, serval calls later we finally had a service tech out who took it back to the shop... and that was 1 month ago - calls to Danby and the Service tech get answers of "we are waiting on a circuit board from China - should be arriving in a few weeks". I have sent e-mails to Danby with no returns. I have threaten to take it back to Home Depot and have been told that if I want to do that, I will have to pick it up from the service tech (15 miles away). Stay away from Danby!!!!

We were immediately happy when we opened the packaging and found that this model came with a 5 lb. CO2 tank. This is hard to find with these $500-$600 models. This Danby was easy to set up and I love the digital temperature gauge on the front, I can set the temperature to the exact degree that I want.

I would highly recommend this model over any others in this price range. Don't bother with the lower priced models either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not sure what everyone has been complaining about, January 19, 2012
This review is from: Danby DKC645BLS 5.8-Cu.Ft. Designer Beer Keg Cooler, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
We have had this Kegerator for over 5 years.. it has sat in our garage, here in the Dallas area year round...

The garage goes from 30 degrees or less in the winter, up to 140 degrees in the summer, and the Danby keeps the beer a constant 34-37 degrees... it has never failed us.... this has been one of the best purchases we have made...

I am very glad we did not listen to many of the reviews on this unit or we would have missed out.

It's amazing, with the negative marks on this unit on Amazon, over 5 years later, the company is still selling the same unit... must mean they are doing something right or they would have discontinued it years ago....

I highly recommend this unit... it will save a ton of money down the road!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Value and Good Product, August 28, 2011
This review is from: Danby DKC645BLS 5.8-Cu.Ft. Designer Beer Keg Cooler, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I purchased this keg cooler after reading many poor reviews on it. I decided to take the chance and buy it anyways and I love it. The beer is cold, but it would be nice to get it a little colder. I chill my glasses right in the kegerator so my first beer is always cold. I have only owned it for about a month but it is great.

4.0 out of 5 stars good product, July 31, 2011
This review is from: Danby DKC645BLS 5.8-Cu.Ft. Designer Beer Keg Cooler, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I only have had this for 2 weeks. Setup was easy, find a place where CO2 if filled before you get this. I needed to fill CO2 and get keg and thats it. I set it up put the keg in and let it settle for 24 hours and poured the first beer. It was great but the foam was about 1/2 the beer. I made sure all the connections was good and followed the instructions about tilting the glass and having the spoout 1/4 inch away from the glass and still foam. My friend came over and poured the spout on the glass and very little foam about 1/2/ inch which is perfect. So dont follow the instructions on how to pour the beer. The other issue has been the temp. of the beer. The lowest setting is 36 degrees but it gets down to 34 and when I put a real thermometer the lowest is 28 degrees and highest is 38 so no problem there. I only have to worry about durability cause I have only had it 2 weeks of course. So no foam issue and beer is plenty cold enough. I definitely would reccomend this product. Oh anonther this Coors light does come in a standard 1/2 keg size just ask and it fits fine...no problems at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy products from Danby, May 12, 2011

I hestitate to even give this product one star. It was a nightmare from the beginning with this product. The kegerator stopped working after a month and a half. A service provider came out and 3 months later we were still waiting for the electronic board or whatever it's called that regulates the temperature. After several emails and screaming matches on the phone with Danby gave me another service provider who I called and told me they only fix wine fridges, so pretty much I was out of luck and would have to pay for the repairs. The original service provider that came out (Jasko in Philadelphia area, stay away from them too) was let go sometime within the 3 months they were waiting on the piece to come in (no one told me this until I freaked out at Danby because Jasko still hadn't returned or called me back). finally I called Home Depot and at about the 4 month mark, they took the kegerator back for us and gave us a new one. And again Danby gets us. We bring the CO2 tank to get filled and it lasts one keg. We take it back to where we had it filled because we thought they didn't fill it all the way but no!! Danby gave us a brand new CO2 tank with a leak in it. Gotta love it. other then that the new keg has worked but I don't have much faith it will keep working. This was by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced and I was a supervisor in a call center for a major financial company for 7 years. If any of my employees had dealt with a situation in this way they would have been fired on the spot. Danby knows their products stink and matches their customer service to the quality of those products. Buy from anyone but this seller.

1.0 out of 5 stars BAD PRODUCT, March 11, 2010

This review is from: Danby DKC645BLS 5.8-Cu.Ft. Designer Beer Keg Cooler, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I purchased this kegerator 4 years ago and bad news. I have had the digital display fixed 3 times, had the compressor changed once, fortunately Dandy covered it, but I had to wait 3 months and 4 trips from a repairman (not his fault, waiting on Danbys parts}to get it fixed last time and now its out again with a full keg of beer in it. SPEND THE MONEY AND GET A BETTER ONE, I could have but my contractor put this in when he built my bar.

I have had this kegerator for about 2 months now and I love it. The beer is cold and really couldn't ask for more. Beer started to get foamy but it was my fault for not cleaning the lines, so keep the lines clean. The tower is has little circulation of cold air from the fridge, but don't know if adding a circulation fan would help any? The cooler is not to loud, not any louder than any other fridge. Make sure to keep it indoors because it's an INDOOR kegerator. After all this, I would recommend this kegerator to anyone. Bout to pour me a glass or two.
