If you like Jennifer Lopez, you definitely need this album/CD in your collection.

The new songs on the collection sound like leftover filler tracks.

JLo has recently put out some great songs (On the Floor, Dance Again) and she's had some great songs in the past (Waiting for Tonite, Let's Get Loud). It should have been easy for her to do a fabulous greatest hits collection. This just isn't it. It starts off well, but around the middle it just falls apart and does not recover until the very end. The remixes are particularly repetitive and unnecessary. I was hoping some of these older songs would have been updated and given a fresh new sound consistent with her latest material. Instead the remixes are in a totally different direction. The result is like having a creme-filled donut that has humus instead of creme in it. I was hoping to never hear anything from her Spanish album ever again. Time has not been kind to that album. It seemed like a brave effort then, now it is obvious it was a huge misstep. I am also surprised at the version of Waiting for Tonite that was included. It would have been easy to update this song to give a modern dance sound but they didn't. A lot of lost opportunities here.

My review for those who are new to Jennifer Lopez's music: Get this collection. All of the songs on it are really good and you shouldn't pay attention to my minor nitpicking details, because this is definitely the best way to get familiar with her music.

My review for those who are already Jennifer Lopez fans: I'll start off with the bad. First off, who made the track listing for this? The order the songs are in seems completely random and doesn't exactly flow well. It would have had a better flow to it if the songs were in chronological order. Some of her biggest hits, "Play," the Track Masters Remix of "I'm Gonna Be Alright," and "I'm Glad," are missing, while minor hits like "I'm Into You" and "Feelin' So Good" rest comfortably on the standard track listing. Not to mention the 2 week #1 hit "All I Have" is only a bonus track on the deluxe version, while it should be on all editions. In the booklet and back cover, "Jenny From the Block" and "Feelin' So Good" are labeled as remixes while they are, in fact, the original album versions. The version of "Get Right" used on this album is the version featuring two raps by Fabulous, however I'm fairly sure the main version of the song without a rapper tacked on was the more popular version.

All complaints aside, this is not a bad collection. Many criticize Jennifer as an artist, but she sure knows how to pick her songs, even if she doesn't write the majority of them, or have the strongest voice. All of the songs included here are pop gold (except the new song "Goin' In," which as of right now I don't care for), and have glamorous videos to go along with them. The DVD looks and sounds great.

It's hard to believe that Jennifer Lopez has already released a whopping seven albums (as well as a remix collection), but here we are with a greatest hits release from the Bronx native. Anybody interested in the music she's recorded knows she's no vocal acrobat nor is the music inventive. Her songs are not intended to impress but to pack a dance floor, and her voice is just serviceable enough to be convincing—effectively making her the Paula Abdul of the New Millennium.

Jenny can carry a tune, essentially, though it takes some studio magic to make her singing voice more pleasant than it actually is in real life and her range is woefully small. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the chops to carry an entire album and is served better as a singles artist, as her recording career has borne out. Here, the most popular of her singles are packed into one disc—presenting J.Lo at her best, without the filler that bogs down her studio efforts.

The songs are mixed for ease of listening, rather than chronology, and the set is dominated by guest rappers. Only six of the songs feature Jenny independent of her hip-hop associates—and two of those solo efforts (“Qué Hiciste” and “Let's Get Loud”) are only available on the deluxe edition. This is her most obvious shortcoming—that she requires other talent to shore up her modest abilities into a club-ready dynamic. She has a much harder time on her own, but is served well by the now clichéd musical interplay between street thug and pop diva.

Her New York attitude is ultimately what carries the day, from her earliest singles (“If You Had My Love” and “Feelin' So Good”) to her most recent chart-toppers (“I'm Into You” and “On The Floor”).

I think I only paid like $1.99 for the whole disc when Amazon was having a special promotion. It has some of my favorite old school JLo on it, things from "Jenny From the Block," "If You Had My Love," and both Ja Rule remixes for "I'm Real" and "Ain't That Funny." And at the price of 1 maybe 2 songs it was definitely a steal. Don't, however, expect to find ALL the HITS on here that you are looking for.
