This is real music,

This is real music, by an accomplished pianist and arranger with an original narrative gift. She takes her compositions off-road, into quiet unmapped landscapes that hint of Bill Evans and Monk but are totally her own. This is a CD you'll be glad to discover over and over again.

Molly Flannery and her Quintet transport my mind/spirit to a wonderful place where the sun is bright, the jazz is hot, the water is cool and the towels are fluffy. The Island Reverie track (Ms. Flannery's own composition) is particularly riveting. This CD is simply DEEEEvine!

The album combines the sensibility of romantic piano music with outlandish accoustic sound and voice effects, a lyrical base, two very different approaches to drumming, very individual horn playing, and a variety of vocals. that all of this blends together into an original and unified sound has to do with the communication between the musician. It is both quite practiced and completely spontaneous, a rare combination in studio recordings.
