Among the best of disco,
By
This review is from: Dance Dance Dance: The Best of Chic (Audio CD)
"Dance Dance Dance" is the best Chic album, because unlike other "Best of..." efforts, these are full length (either album versions or 12-inch singles). As another reviewer opines, that fact makes this compilation the best value for the money (or otherwise). It is way TOO easy to dog out disco. But it was equally incredibly easy to dance to, to the point where it is almost impossible to sit still while this music is playing. The sound was infectious, which in part is why it is so regularly sampled even by "musicians" of today (I hope that home-girl Luci Martin and the rest of the group get their royalties from those today who flatter by their imitation!). These are among the songs which made disco what it was. From "Dance Dance Dance" to "I Want Your Love", "Good Times" and of course "Le Freak", this has all their best. I cannot think of another disco group which had so many number one hits.

Best Dance Group of the 1970s - Hands Down,

Disco got such a bad rap after its demise, and who would be surprised? Most of the mainstream hits were cheesy imitations of the Real Thing: Leo Sayer's "You Make Me Feel Like Dancin'," Rick Dees' "Disco Duck" and so forth. Chic, however, delivered the Real Deal, offering serious grooves and memorable basslines that would be sampled by every other rapper. This hits collection is flat-out perfect. Not only do we get the hits, but they're in their full-length, 12-inch versions. That's very important for a group that was a hit in the club scene. What's to dislike about "Good Times," "I Want Your Love," or "Dance Dance Dance?" Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers were geniuses, and Tony Thompson is one of the most overlooked drummers out there. Rock conniseurs may shake their heads in contempt, but old school dance lovers will know that Chic was one of the baddest groups around. It's time to recognize!

Elegant and addictive,

This collection proves the late 70s was a great time for dance music. Along with Giorgio Moroder, Donna Summer, Grace Jones and Saturday Night fever there was Chic, with their minimalistic but elegant grooves. My favorites on this collection include Everybody Dance, Le Freak (which was a sort of mini anthem), I Want Your Love, Good Times and Savoir Faire. These are the extended mixes, not the original singles, but that means more value for money! Something in the blend of tight guitar riffs, vocals and sublime arrangements just grab you; this is dance music you can listen to. And if you want more of the same, check out Norma Jean's album Saturday and anything by Sister Sledge. Bring back the Seventies!

A timeless classic - Chic originated this genre.,
This review is from: Dance Dance Dance: The Best of Chic (Audio CD)
Contemporary critics are just now waking up to the fact that Chic were musical pioneers - Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards created some of the most melodious, icily slick dance music ever heard. Great musicianship - first rate. All the big hits are here - and to understand the band even better, get "The Best of Chic II."Classic music which was and is sometimes still imitated, but never has been quite equalled. Listen to "I Want Your Love," and "Good Times," as well as "Le Freak," and revel in the wicked bass lines and jazz-influenced guitar work that made Chic a true original. Excellent!

This IS DISCO and some of the best at that!,

Forget what the guy down below said..this is Disco and truly (along with Voyage) the best of Disco. It WAS played at Studio 54...actually Chic played there themselves in person quite often (someone below wasn't at Studio 54 very often!...probably a closet Disco lover and trys to dismiss this as not Disco) (-: This is a great CD an reflects an era that started dance music. Disco never died...it just adapted and changed with the times as it is the root of rap, house, techno, trance, acid jazz etc... Get out your boogie shoes and get moving because this music is infectious. Cheers to Chic!

The long versions of Dance, Dance, Dance , Everybody Dance & the brilliant, lovely I Want Your Love are great. Finally, a way to replace the old disco singles! Remember the pink vinyl for I Want Your Love?My Forbidden Lover is great too ... as is (always) Le Freak. Heck, you can't really miss on one of these hits!

In the liner notes to Barry White's greatest hits CD, he defends disco as a beautiful music with a certain emphasis on elegant style. This is precisely how I view the best disco, such as that produced by Chic. The group in question always strove to present itself in only the most refined light, bordering at times on the snobby. But it was all part and parcel of the disco mystique. Women were presented as these sultry, sensual creatures with a hold on any man that laid eyes on them. Vocals were oft-times breathy..... Chic played a large role in all of this, but never relied alone on its regal persona to sell records. Bernard Edwards' bass and Nile Rogers' guitar saw to that. Lush strings and thumping bass drums were also a factor. If you are already open to dance music, one listen to the insane, virtuosic bassline overture of "Everybody Dance" should be enough to convince you of Chic's genius.

Classic Dance Tracks,

This review is from: Dance Dance Dance: The Best of Chic (Audio CD)
Chic may have thrived during the disco era, yet their best tracks remain classics. When the band found a terrific groove, the results were exhilarating. The 1991 compilation "Dance, Dance, Dance" lives up to its title, with unedited versions of hit singles such as "Good Times," "I Want Your Love" and "Le Freak." Essential listening - on and off the dance floor.

This CD is not only amazing but also worth the price. Rogers and Bernards are so exceptional in coming up with all the tracks. This is one CD that collectors of disco music should have.

and that's the main reason this is such a good buy. Collectors looking for the radio edit shoud go elsewhere. The longer version of "I Want Your Love" is so much better. All the hits are here too.
