5.0 out of 5 stars Dave Koz always stays ahead of the pack
It's the emotion Dave Koz's music has that sets him apart from so many other contemporary jazz musicians. THE DANCE is no exception. There's the upbeat feel good songs like Together Again, Can't Let You Go and The Bright Side, the sexy Surrender, the hauntingly beautiful Know You By Heart and Right By Your Side, and the very romantic You Are Me I Am You. Another thing...

3.0 out of 5 stars The man knows how to kick it
Wow! When i first put in The Dance, i was absolutely blown away by the first track, "Together Again". Everything in this song was just done perfectly! And Luther Vandross just ruled in "The Sha La Song". There weren't to many songs here that i liked, (but i'm just very partial to the upbeat stuff), but "I'm Waiting For You" is a really good...

5.0 out of 5 stars Dave Koz always stays ahead of the pack, October 6, 1999

It's the emotion Dave Koz's music has that sets him apart from so many other contemporary jazz musicians. THE DANCE is no exception. There's the upbeat feel good songs like Together Again, Can't Let You Go and The Bright Side, the sexy Surrender, the hauntingly beautiful Know You By Heart and Right By Your Side, and the very romantic You Are Me I Am You. Another thing that places Koz ahead of his contemporaries is his willingness to venture into fresh territory - never more so than with his OFF THE BEATEN PATH CD, but that sense of adventure and freshness is very present on THE DANCE as well. Even when Koz plays a song in a familiar genre format, he adds his own uniqueness to it making it always a delight to hear. On THE DANCE Koz takes a musically diverse group of musicians (BeBe Winans, Montell Jordan, Burt Bachrach, David Benoit, Chris Botti, Marc Antoine, and Luther Vandross) and a musically diverse group of songs (with covers of Garth Brook's The Dance, Michael Jackson's I'll Be There and George Michael's Careless Whisper along with his own Cuban Hideaway) and somehow comes out with a record that flows like a dance itself. Once it gets in the CD player it's hard to stop playing it. Koz is in his element here and it's great.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW OH WOW OH WOW, October 8, 1999

It somewhat saddens me to say that THE DANCE has bumped OFF THE BEATEN PATH from my #1 all-time favorite CD (sorry rathje40@yahoo.com, but rest assured that OTBP will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart)! It's evident that Koz puts EVERYTHING into his albums...THE DANCE is no different! One can just feel the emotion in each note! When I listen to this CD, I feel happy, sad, beautiful, happy, sexy, happy, romantic, like I can dance forever, and did I mention happy? I just can't sit still listening to the whole CD, especially Cuban Hideaway! Makes it difficult to listen at work! :-) This CD almost makes listening to the radio boring. My REPEAT button has NEVER seen this much action!!! WAY TO GO DAVE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kenny G it's not, December 9, 1999

I caught Dave at a smooth jazz holiday concert where he played several tracks from this release and I was taken by the sheer joy of the songs. He collaborates with some top talent, like Chris Botti, David Benoit, and Burt Bacharach, and it combines to make a wonderfully fulfilling record. Instead of the typical soprano sax whining, Dave shows his wizardry by making every song have its own feel and personality. "Together Again" is a great leadoff, but the rest of the record is even better. "Playing by Heart" (with Benoit) is touching, and BeBe Winans makes great work of the Garth Brooks tune "The Dance" All in all, Koz's best and a must have for any smooth jazz fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dave Koz sets the right moves with THE DANCE, December 24, 1999

This is by far one of the best jazz CD that I have had the opportunity to listen to. Dave starts off with "Together Again", then throws a little Luther Vandross at you with "Can't Let Go" followed shortly by "Know You by Heart". Although Garth Brooks is know for the song "THE DANCE", BeBe Winans rendition will move you to tears. The album has very few low parts making the transition from song to song seamless. A definite gift for every music lover, not just jazz aficionados.

5.0 out of 5 stars SAXual Aprodisiac, September 7, 2000

Break out the best champagne! Light the candles! Prepare for a romantically charged listening experience with the latest from sax master Koz. Every cut on this CD evokes Koz's masterful and unique sound that is perfectly suited for the bedroom.

Highlights include a scorching reworking of Wham's "Careless Whisper," the evocative "Surrender," the sultry "Cuban Hideaway," the soothing "Right By Your Side," and a slam-bang version of "I'll Be There."

Koz remains one of the best instrumentalists on the planet today!

I love this CD (and I've never been a huge sax fan) Together Again can elevate my mood like none I've ever heard. The only thing better than listening to The Dance driving with my top down along the coastal highway is listening to Dave in concert (where I got my copy autographed) He is an amazing performer with energy and charisma to spare and it comes out in his recordings!

Wow, I knew Dave Koz was great, but The Dance CD is now my favorite CD in my collection. He has some of the best musicians in the world on this CD with him. The style and content of this CD is really inspiring. Most songs are upbeat, but a couple songs are very romantic and emotional. My fovorites are the title song, and Know you by Heart, but every song is great!

I could write all day on this album but I can't. This album should have been a Grammy winner across the board. Seriously, this album could be Dave Koz best due to the production of the Dance. Koz reworks the Wham! hit Careless Whisper and Garth Brooks the Dance into near perfection plus his own work like Don't Give Up with Burt Bacharach and the opening track Together Again proves beyond a doubt why he won the Jazz Oasis Award in 2000.

5.0 out of 5 stars Me Like!, August 10, 2000

This is my all-time favorite CD. The songs are upbeat, inspirational and just good music to listen to morning and night. Dave Koz does an excellent job of adding a little pizzazz to each song. My favorites are Together Again, Can't Let You Go and, of course, his "sexy little ditty" Surrender. I'm sure you will enjoy this CD as much as I have.
