"A curfew! I can't believe it!" Amy exclaimed in indignation as they walked out of the auditorium. "The only time Katrina is in town, Chrome Dome declares us prisoners in our own homes."

"You'd think we were living through a plague in the middle ages," Lila muttered in disgust.

"It is like a quarantine," Katrina agreed.

"This is absolutely ridiculous!" Jessica put in. "There is no way I'm going to pay attention to that curfew. Especially not now that Jonathan and I are a couple."

Lila gave Amy a sidelong glance, and they both giggled.

"Well, see you later, Jess," Lila said as they turned the corner.

"We've got study hall."

Jessica crossed her arms over her chest. "Do you mind telling me what's going on?" she asked, her eyes glinting angrily.

Lila looked at Amy with questioning eyes. Amy raised her shoulders indecisively.

"I demand that you tell me what this is about," Jessica insisted.

"OK," Amy said with a sigh. "But you're not going to like it."

"I'm sure I can handle it," Jessica said, tapping a foot impatiently.

"Well, Amy and I ran into Enid at the mall on Sunday," Lila began.

"Enid was trying on a black tube dress at Bibi's," Amy put in.

"Pouring on a tube dress is more like it," Lila said with a smirk.

Jessica stamped her foot impatiently. "Would you get to the point?" she asked.

"Well let's just say that Enid was looking a little lovesick," Lila said.

Jessica rolled her eyes. "So tell me something I don't know," she said sarcastically. "The drip has a crush on Jonathan.

"Amy laughed. "And it looks like Jonathan has a crush on the drip."

Jessica narrowed her eyes. "What are you talking about?"

"Enid had a hickey on her neck," Lila explained. "From Jonathan."

Jessica gasped. "What?" she exclaimed. She pictured Jonathan kissing Enid the way he had kissed her, and she felt sick. She imagined him touching her chalky cheeks and kissing her messy red lips. She saw him pushing back her tar black hair and sucking at her neck. Jessica felt dizzy all of a sudden. The image of Jonathan and Enid together was revolting. No, it was more than revolting. It was grotesque. It wasn't possible. Jessica shook her head. "I don't believe it."

Amy shrugged. "Go check it out for yourself."

"See you later," Lila said, waving as they walked away.

Jessica turned and marched down the hall, her blood boiling. Had she been outdone by the drip? She stalked down the corridor, heading for the vacant lockers near the back door where she could be alone. And Enid isn't just competing with me, Jessica thought, her fury mounting. She's trying to steal Jonathan!

Jessica turned a corner and punched a locker in rage, the sound reverberating in the empty corridor. If the story was true, Enid was going to be sorry. Jessica didn't know how she was going to do it, but she'd get her revenge. Enid Rollins would rue the day she ever set eyes on Jonathan Cain.

3.0 out of 5 stars Old Story, New Monster, June 8, 2005
This review is from: Dance of Death (Sweet Valley High) (Paperback)
I was disappointed with this vampire mini-series. It seemed to copy an earlier Sweet Valley High trilogy about werewolves (Love & Death in London, Date With a Werewolf, & Beware the Wolfman). In both trilogies, there are mysterious human and pet murders. In the werewolf trilogy, Elizabeth is in love with a werewolf, while in the vampire series, Jessica is in love with a vampire. That difference makes it a whole new story!

The plot in DOD is stale and has been used many times before. Jessica falls madly in love with a new boy, and Elizbeth is torn between her summer fling, Joey Mason, and her boyfriend, Todd Wilkins. This dilemma might have more novelty if Elizabeth hadn't already cheated on Todd in many other books.

Jessica and Enid both fall in love with Jonathan Cain, who is a vampire. Of course Jonathan rejects Enid for Jessica, who always gets her man.

When a young woman is murdered, Elizabeth irrationaly jumps to the conclusion that it must be Jessica, because the murder victim is a blonde, as is Jessica. Coincidentally, In Love & Death in London, Elizabeth also believes Jessica has been murdered. This is just an old story with a new villan.

This book was great, I couldn't put it down! Jessica is obsessed with Jonathan, and although it's obvious Jonathan is attracted to her he won't open himself up to her. What does he have to hide?

By A Customer
This review is from: Dance of Death (Sweet Valley High) (Paperback)
It's book 2 of these suspensful 3-part mysteries. Jessica loves Jonathan Cain, who just moved to Sweet Valley. But Jonathan he resists Jess everytime she comes his way. Is he just not interested, or does he have something deadly to hide?
