Keeva Banks found herself sitting in her college counselor's office unsure of how she would bring her grades up to complete her Master's program. While Keeva half-heartedly listened to the counselor, she breathed through yet another anxiety attack that did not renew her passion for the program, or take away the sadness and emptiness that had been following her around. Instead, she went home to release the angst that took over her body by dancing, the one true love she desired to pursue for her life against her parents' wishes.
It was hard for Keeva to focus on her classes while dealing with the dissatisfaction she felt concerning her life, including the boyfriend she had since college. Plans for marriage did not make things better, and the phone calls she received from Shara Anderson to begin working on a class project did not help matters much either. But there was something about Shara that seemed to bring about a calming effect for Keeva, something she had not experienced in her life before. Shara, who was unkempt in Keeva's eyes, became a trusted friend to Keeva, who appeared to have it all together in every aspect of her life. But as she got to know Shara, she found that the empty place in her life could be filled. Not with sex with her boyfriend, shopping and spending her parents' money, but the Spirit of God. As Keeva began to give her life over to the Lord, He began to change her from the inside out and helped her to realize what she was destined to do in her life. The two women who seemed unlikely to be friends helped each other along the path that God had pre-ordained for them both, becoming an encouragement and blessing to one another. Dance into Destiny is a wonderful read that takes us through the journey of Keeva's path to salvation, and Shara coming into what God had showed her for her life. This fictional story allows us to see that nothing happens in our lives that God does not know about, and how through these events, there is a path that has already been planned for us by the Almighty. I recommend this book to those who are struggling to accept the call on their lives, or feel they are falling short of what God has for them to do. Reviewed by Sharel E. Gordon-Love APOOO BookClub

I have attempted to read quite a few Christian novels... only to become frustrated about how often they are unrealistic. The circumstances and actions of the characters in the novels that the authors write about are not "real people." I know it's fiction, but it helps to write about scenarios that average people experience and in a fiction setting it allow the reader to consider how the characters responded and perhaps gain some insight on how to go about dealing with those same issues in their own lives. This book is refreshingly real! Love the plot, characters, and the ending! Great author, can't wait to read more.

In the book Dance Into Destiny by Sherri L. Lewis, Keeva Banks had been kicked out of one prestigious school and was now on the brink of flunking out of another and being cut
off financially by her parents. Keeva was used to getting everything that she wanted from her parents as long as she lived the life they wanted for her to live. Keeva's dreams of becoming a dancer as a little girl died when her father pretty much planned her profession and pushed his ideas of success on her. Keeva was in a relationship that long ago lost its luster and had a group of girlfriends that she could care less about hanging out with. It was now the end of the semester and grades were soon to come. She needed to study and get a good grade on her finals. Keeva did not think that things could get any worse until she was assigned to work with a homely looking girl on a school project. The stress was unbearable and her only release was going back to her first love, but little did she know that she would find a greater love during this journey. Shara Anderson worked hard in school and for the youth in her community. She wasn't into fashion, dating, and all of the frills and thrills that many sought after in college. Shara, the daughter, of a strict pastor had always been in the church and was now saved. Shara's passion was the youth and helping to motivate them to achieve good grades and instill faith that they could be more than what their environment dictated. From the outside it seemed as if everything in Shara's life was in order, and things perfect. Shara was more concerned about helping people than having a personal life. Shara focused on helping the kids and her new project partner, Keeva but did not feel that she could do enough for either. She met the potential youth pastor, Quinton and fights the growing attraction to him Shara could not deny the similarities between him and her. Shara had a hard time breaking free from the strict teachings of her father concerning men and allowing herself to get a complete makeover to be the woman of God that He created her to be. Quinton Mercer was in a new town, ready to work with the youth of Kingdom Builders Christian Church, which was located in the inner city, to build up the kingdom of God. Quinton's motives were pure although not well thought, thinking that money could buy the kids and was only temporary. Quinton and Shara had to work together since he was seeking the position of youth pastor and she was one of the youth leaders. Quinton felt something in his spirit stir as she began talking about her vision for the youth. He did not worry too much about her disheveled look. Quinton fell for Shara at first sight and was glad that she did not recognize him from the basketball court. He was trying to outrun his own demons. God can only heal what is revealed! It was a great book ; I could barely put it down and I was done with it too quickly. I could visualize the storyline and connected with each character. It is an excellent read! It is heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time, but truly is exemplary of our God and how he uses what the devil means for the bad and turns it into something good. A Sense Of Purpose,

This review is from: Dance to Destiny (Urban Christian) (Paperback)
Shara Anderson and Keeva Banks are the two main characters in this book about friendship, love and letting go of the past.
Keeva Banks parents have money to send her to the school that THEY want her to go to, so she can graduate to become who THEY want her to be. Keeva's boyfriend Mark is wrapped up in his own self and what Keeva can give him. He couldn't careless about what she wants. Now Keeva has reached a time in her life where she has begun to questions herself as to why she isn't doing things to make herself happy. Her unhappiness has started to affect her grades, and grad school has become a place where instead of listening to the professor, she day dreams on how to let go of her current "purposeless" life. But the big question is how and then what? Shara Anderson is doing exactly what makes her happy. Her relationship with God is a healthy one and she is also in grad school pursuing a Masters in Education. The main highlight in Shara's world is her track and tutoring programs for the less fortunate children in the area. But Shara's life is robotic and one sided...Shara often speaks of her intimate relationship with God and her satisfaction when helping others; but never speaks of her past and how that may have been the catalyst to her current situation. Yes, Shara walks the Christian walk but why is she lacking balance? Pick up this excellent book and learn how two very different young women are thrown together and how they deal with their past issues and current friendships. I liked how the author gave us a glimpse of all the characters personalities while still keeping the focus on the two main characters. Ms Lewis embraced the sub plots while she kept on point, never losing sight of the main storyline, producing a well rounded novel that had my full attention. The epilogue answered the one question I had and I finished this read with a smile. Locksie ARC Book Club Inc.

I really enjoyed "Dance to Destiny". Was very skeptical after the 1st chapter, but I liked how she switched the focus of the book midstream. A lot of Christian fiction is not that entertaining. However, Sherri kept you interested as if you were living w/ the characters as opposed to just reading about them.
My only negative is that it wasn't longer or there wasn't a sequel.

Sherri Lewis has done it again. "Dance into Destiny" is a story based on an unlikely friendship. Keeva Banks a young woman who appears to have it all; a fancy car, home and a good looking boyfriend too match. But inside she is empty and longing to recapture the dreams she once cherished. Bogged down by her parents desires for her future and their financial backing, Keeva is having a hard time figuring out what became of that dreamer that embraced life.
Shara Anderson knows where she is going because she is led of the Spirit. She is grounded and well organized. Not to be deterred with men and dating, Shara has her head on straight until she meets the new youth pastor of her church. These two ladies form a bond thru their differences and weaknesses that only God could put together! Sherri Lewis'stories happen down the street and around the corner from your home. They are true to life. The characters believable and real. The romance is clean and intimate without being vulgar. I enjoyed this story very much. It made me question my destiny and what I am doing with gifts God has given me. It was an entertaining page turner! Two thumbs up Ms. Lewis!

I loved reading this book. It was for a book club selection. Three ladies in the group decided to pursue their dreams. One lady signed up to go back to college, one lady decided to open up a dance studio and another lady decided to open up a photography business and become a event planner. To sum it all up, this book was truly about Destiny!!!

This was a wonderful inspirational christian fiction story. It deals with how people can overcome things in their past and learn to love themselves and not allow others to block their blessings. They all learned to Let Go and Let God. The part that hit home for me was the questions Pastor Kendrick asked the congregation during one of his sermons. For what reason were you born? Why are you here? What is your purpose? What did God send you to earth to do?

Once again, Sherri Lewis has created another anointed work of literature!
DANCE INTO DESTINY is a simple story of real people with real issues and real solutions. Everything is not squeaky clean with these characters who reveal the face of real Christians - sometimes good, bad, and ugly. The characters are down-to-earth and endearing. Sherri writes beautifully... with an anointed pen! Her words flow as beautifully as the dancers - whether dancing on the stage or dancing in the spirit. DANCE INTO DESTINY is a moving, must-read which captures and holds your attention. |
